The wife of the president, Aisha Buhari, is currently at the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (#UNGA 71).
She shared photos of her meeting with Melinda Gates on improving the lives of women and girls.
“Its interesting to know that Melinda Gates is also as passionate as I am about improving the lives of women and girls. Very insightful meeting earlier today,” she captioned the photos.
Aisha Buhari also attended the Organisation of African First Ladies Against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA) meeting on improving the sexual and reproductive health of the adolescent girl on Wednesday.
“It is important for us to appreciate that adolescence is the age at which girls are most vulnerable and impressionable at the same time. It is at this time that parental guidance and family oversight become critical and most needed in their lives.
It is important that the UN Agenda 2030 is conscientiously implemented with adolescents in mind, and their health and well-being given paramount consideration at both national and global levels,” she said in a post on Facebook.

You’re welcome in advance,
Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, wrote an interesting piece for Bloomberg on “Making ‘Africa Rising’ a Reality in Nigeria”.
Until a few years ago, Africa Rising was a dominant theme in conversations about the global economy. That enthusiasm has since cooled, so that in newsrooms and think tanks and conference panels, “Africa Rising!” has given way to a more questioning “Africa Rising?”
While some of that pessimism may be justified, we do not have the luxury of distracting ourselves with lamentations about our current circumstances. Instead of hoping for commodity prices to rise, African countries should seize the opportunities that these times present — not least here at today’s U.S.-Africa Business Forum — to lay a foundation for the kind of economic growth that transforms the lives of our people.
One of our biggest challenges during the boom years was that we failed to convert the benefits of high commodity prices into more jobs and significant improvements in standards of living. Hence the great debate, during those years, about how to ensure that the growth became “inclusive.”
Now that we are face to face with the vulnerabilities somehow hidden during the years of plenty, we should turn away from the unhelpful habits of the past and chart a new course. Since I signed the 2016 budget into law in May, Nigeria’s Ministry of Finance has released more than 400 billion naira for infrastructure spending — more than the total amount spent in 2015.
In the face of dwindling oil revenues, we are turning to debt. We have begun raising a $1 billion Eurobond, our first in three years. We are also raising debt from the World Bank, the African Development Bank, the Chinese Ex-Im Bank and other development finance partners.
Unlike in the past, when borrowed funds were frittered away on unproductive ventures, we will ensure their investment in the revival of stalled road, rail, power and port projects, and in agricultural initiatives that will significantly boost domestic production of food. For far too long we have under-invested in infrastructure — the most critical element for creating sustainable economic growth. The net effect: an avoidably high cost of doing business in Nigeria.
But even more important than what the government is able to spend is the limitless investment potential of the private sector. This is why one of our main priorities is creating an environment in which private-sector capital can thrive. We are in particular using Public-Private Partnership models to support game-changing private-sector projects in power, refining, gas transportation and fertilizer production.
We are also putting in place measures to ensure that monies intended to revamp our infrastructure do not end up in the pockets of corrupt officials and their collaborators. Already we are investigating the theft of several billion dollars in public funds by the previous administration. We are not only bringing these corrupt officials to justice, we are also setting up systems to make it impossible for such a grievous abuse of public trust to happen again. And of course, we are as committed to playing by the rule of law as we are to accounting for every naira and recovering them for our treasury. These were funds meant to build roads and railway lines and hospitals and schools, and to equip our military — which has for the last seven years been fighting one of the deadliest terrorist groups in the world.
In that regard, we are already seeing the positive results of our anti-corruption efforts. Long starved of both materiel and morale by the corruption in the military’s upper echelons, our reinvigorated troops have now put Boko Haram permanently on the back foot. Some of the more than 2 million persons displaced by Boko Haram have started returning to their homes. Just last week, the people of Nigeria’s northeast celebrated their first incident-free Eid in years.
Our troops have rescued thousands of men, women and children trapped in areas held by Boko Haram. To meet their urgent humanitarian needs, we are working with the United Nations and other partners to provide food, medical help and shelter. We will strive to ensure that no victim is left behind, including the 219 Chibok girls who have, since their abduction in April 2014, served as a global symbol of the war against Boko Haram and a reminder of the horrors that it has inflicted on innocent Nigerians.
Even though the times are still dire, our economic recovery plan is already showing positive results. Investment’s share in gross domestic product is at its highest since 2010. Inflation is slowing; manufacturing confidence is rising. People are seeing and seizing opportunities to make money catering to the needs of Africa’s most populous country. Finally, our Social Investment Program — the most ambitious in Nigeria’s history — will kick off this month. In its first year it will provide cash transfers to 1 million of our poorest people, hot meals to 5 million primary-school children, cheap loans to more than 1 million artisans and traders, and job opportunities in health care, agriculture and software and hardware development for half a million young people.
The journey ahead remains long and difficult. Our double-digit inflation, currency turmoil and downgraded ratings will not vanish overnight. We also know that the current recession is partly driven by the production outages in Nigeria’s Delta region, and we are confident that growth will accelerate as problems in that region are resolved.
But the real story here is not the challenges, which are all too visible, but the opportunities. We have learned the necessary lessons. We will ensure that Nigeria does not slip back into a lazy and dangerous dependence on the price of crude oil. We will continue to insist on transparency and accountability in the use of government funds. And we will build an economy that prioritizes the ease of doing business and investing, and that thrives on the entrepreneurial energy and ingenuity of our people.
To achieve these objectives, Nigeria needs robust and reliable partnerships such as we have with the United States. This is why I value the Commercial and Investment Policy Dialogue that we have just launched, and which we shall announce at today’s U.S.-Africa Business Forum.
The months ahead will show not only that Nigeria is on the rise, but that this “Rising” is real and lasting — one that touches not just the statistical databases, but the lives of the people who elected us to deliver positive change.
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Nigeria will welcome intermediaries from the United Nations (UN) on the proposed swapping of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls with Boko Haram Terrorists held in custody.
The president made the proposal at a meeting with the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, on the sidelines of the 71st UN General Assembly in New York.
The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, confirmed Buhari’s position in a statement in Abuja on Thursday.
The president said the decision to welcome the UN was to show the administration’s commitment to get the girls released.
He said the government was willing to bend over backward to get the Chibok girls released from captivity.
Buhari, however, noted that “The challenge is in getting credible and bona fide leadership of Boko Haram to discuss with. The split in the insurgent group is not helping matters. Government had reached out, ready to negotiate but it became difficult to identify credible leaders. We will welcome intermediaries such as UN outfits, to step in.”
The president reiterated that the teachings of Boko Haram were far from being Islamic, as neither Islam, nor any other religion, advocated hurting the weak and innocent.
“The fact that they kill men, women, children, and other people wantonly, and shout ‘Allahu Akbar’ (God is great) shows that they do not know that Allah at all. If they did, they would not shed innocent blood,” Buhari said.
He thanked Ban for the moral and material support given to Nigeria, which had enabled the country to surmount many of its challenges.
In his response, the UN Secretary General congratulated Buhari on the anti-corruption war of his administration.
“You are highly respected by world leaders, including myself. Your persona has given your country a positive image.”
He said the UN recognised the achievements of Buhari’s administration against Boko Haram and urged that “human rights be upheld always to prevent a repeat of the scenario being witnessed in Syria.”
Ban also thanked the Nigerian leader for his commitment to issues on climate change, adding that the government should “own the Sustainable Development Goals,” for the good of the citizens.

Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Solomon Dalung has declared a state of emergency in the Nigerian Sports sector following the poor performance of athletes at the recently conclude Rio 2016 Olympic games.
Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, returned to Nigeria today and had this to say after meeting with President Buhari and attending the Aso Villa Demo day in Abuja
According to the story, the anti-graft agency is inviting finance directors of federal ministries and agencies to come forward with details of their draft budgets and what was finally approved by the national assembly.
They are billed to make their appearances on different days of the week.
Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin, who was axed as chairman of the house appropriations committee in July, had alleged that Dogara alongside his deputy, Yusuf Lasun; chief whip Alhassan Doguwa and minority leader Leo Ogor, made illegal insertions totalling some N450bn into the 2016 budget.
Jibrin has been on a tweeting spree since he first made the allegations, labelling Dogara a “corrupt…shameless fraud” who should be in jail.
An APC committee invited Jibrin over to appear before it in August; in what was an attempt to gag the Kano born lawmaker.
However, Jibrin was back hurling allegations at Dogara soon after the Speaker said budget padding wasn’t corruption.
Dogara had made the comments after emerging from a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the villa.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has explained that the looted fund recovered so far by government is far cry from what the country needs to revive the economy.
The minister said this on Friday when he appeared on a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja.
According to him, the amount of money recovered is always being made public.
“What we have recovered and if my record is right is about N78 billion, and 3 million dollars. We have been able to block various accounts in which about $9 billion is found but those are not money available to us because we are still in court over them.
The government spends N165 billion every month to pay federal civil servants, even what has been so far recovered will not even pay 50% of the salaries in a month.
Mohammed assured Nigerians that every penny recovered will be judiciously spent and nobody could re-loot what had been recovered under the administration.
The minister further explained that Nigerians should understand that what had been recovered was so little compared to what the people needed on a continuous basis.
On budget release, he recalled that the Federal Ministry of Finance released N400 billion for capital projects, mostly on roads, railway, and power.
“N400 billion seems a lot, but you must also understand that for three or four years contractors were not paid. So, when we paid this money to contractors, they also use part of it to settle their own debt, they use part of it to recall laid off staff. But the truth of the matter is that many of them have been paid, they are yet to mobilise to site and they cannot do so until the rains are over,” he said.
Mohammed said that what the government owed the contractors was about N2 trillion.
He also described as “preposterous”, the call for resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the economy.
It is very painful in a situation where the armed robber is now the one sympathising with the victim. I read in the dailies that the PDP said that the President must resign because of the economy.
While we are not going to indulge in blame game, I think we should also be honest enough to admit that we will not have been where we are today if they had done what they ought to do.
For the party to ask the President to resign is just a big joke.
The minister said that though the government was not interested in blame game, it was important to set the records straight.
He noted that, “Nigeria is not the only country hit by the recession and crash in price of crude, but other countries made savings”.
“Saudi Arabia today has about $600 billion in reserve and this is by planning and saving for the future which the past administration failed to do during surplus. This is not about blaming other administration, but we believe that one should be honest when criticising,” he said.
Mohammed then assured that the Federal Government would do everything possible to bring the country out of the economic situation.
The PDP new Media Director, Deji Adeyanju, had in a statement in Abuja, asked the President to resign “for destroying” the economy.
Adeyanju was reacting to the data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) issued on Wednesday which stated that Nigeria was in recession
The billionaire Facebook founder is back in Nigeria. He met with president Buhari at Aso Villa where he was seen in a suit happily taking a selfie with the president. Buhari’s media aide said Mark told VP Osinbajo that he wore a suit and his usual T-shirt and jeans, to meet President Buhari out of respect for him. Zuck is back in Nigeria to speak at the closing ceremony of the Abuja Demo Day.
The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, does not have any twitter account, her spokesperson, Festus Akanbi, has said in a statement in Abuja.
Akanbi, the minister’s Special Adviser on Media, said in the statement issued on Thursday, that Adeosun’s attention had been drawn to a fake Twitter handle in her name saying that “recession is just a word”.
This is coming after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), following the tweet, accused the minister of being insensitive, and the words “out of line”, adding that recession is not a word, but a reality in the lives of millions of Nigerians.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the minister does not own a twitter account. The twitter handle currently trending and any other twitter handle presently in existence, is not, and cannot be that of the minister. A twitter account has not yet been set up for her. It is obviously fake and does not represent the views and opinions of the minister,” Akande said.
He also said that Adeosun did not make such a statement.
According to Akanbi, the minister addressed the media immediately after Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting and did not make such a statement.
He said that the minister had consistently demonstrated empathy for the plight of Nigerians hard hit by dwindling oil prices and the impact on the economy.
“This administration is known for integrity and has never hidden the true situation of things from Nigerians, rather it has looked for ways to alleviate the hardships through social intervention programmes.
We, therefore, enjoin all well-meaning Nigerians to disregard these spurious allegations against the minister of Finance.
We remain committed to reflating and resetting the economy on a path towards sustainable growth,” Akanbi said.
However, the Nigerian Senate’s official handle had referred to the said twitter handle in one of its tweets.
The account have also been edited to a parody account.
Also, an account credited to Iceland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, External Trade, Defence and International Development, Lilja Alfredsdottir, also tweeted a picture with Adeosun, which the @MrsKemiAdeosun account retweeted.
Following the saga, the Presidency Office of Digital Engagement (PODE) – @DigiCommsNG tweeted a screenshot from March 2016 where it denied that the account was not for the minister.
Former APC, governorship aspirant in Benue state, Nath Apir has said that Nigerians are currently regretting their decision of voting President Muhammadu Buhari. According to Vanguard, Apir said this in a media chat with newsmen in Makurdi, Benue state yesterday September 1st.
“During the last administration. Our economy was performing above average. This government came in and because every government comes in to fix the problems of the previous government. It took Presidemt Buhari six months to appoint Ministers in a country where, whether rightly or wrongly was rated by the World Bank and the IMF as Africa’s largest and number one economy.
We did not get that rating through bribe. On coming to government it behoved this administration to inflate the tyres that were low on air pressure, grease those bearings that needed to be oiled so that we don’t grind to a halt just like we are in now. Our country is in shambles, the people can hardly feed, the Naira has crashed to over N400 to the Dollar. They talk of recovering money from looters and we have not seen where the monies have gone to. Where exactly are the three or five key pillars of the economic policies of the APC government? Agree that there are issues of militancy in the south south, other governments also faced same challenge. Buhari came in with a military mentality to crush them. Look, civilized people negotiate, they don’t do that because they are weak. They do that because they know that you cannot go forward in a situation of crisis and chaos. He has just aggravated our economic situation in the country. Six months no Minister and the country was drifting and has not recovered till today and he has brought us to this level. Nigerians are regretting voting Buhari, that is the truth. All his policies had been anti corruption, by the time he came in as military ruler in 1983 we resorted to the purchasing of essential commodities. We are back to that vicious circle. We are back to anti corruption war without real economic policies. Let me tell you, western countries are neck deep in corruption. Don’t be deceived, they have been receiving stolen monies from Africa without questioning the sources of such wealth. Today we are asking for the return of those monies and they are asking for proof that the monies are our own when they did not ask the alleged thieves where they got the monies from. These are basic things we should know, they use the monies to develop their economies. President Buhari’s war on corruption is excellent and I support it, but he must not use his anti corruption war to destroy the country’s economy. He should strengthen institutions to fight corruption. You want to fight corruption go after bankers, permanent secretaries as well, don’t just go after only highly exposed political people. These people cannot transfer monies without the banks. Permanent secretaries are the accounting officers of their offices. How come they are not being held to account. “The economy is in shambles and he has no solution. The experience of the Finance Minister is low. Who is running this economy. You cannot assemble a group of yes sir people and expect good results. No one to challenge you. An educated man said, ‘we are all ignorant of everything except in that which we know’, that is why you need great minds around you as a leader. So our country is in recession, though I’m not surprise because we had same in 1983 to 1985. Who is running this economy? As a President he is looking at a maze but you cannot read or lead the economy inside that maze without anybody interpreting it to you, it’s a matrix. Buhari has to reorganize his administration, he has to push out those who obviously have no business in the government, corrupt and inefficient people are everywhere in this government they must leave now to save our country.”he said
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Borno has insisted that the state government must expose officials who are indicted in ghost workers’ scam.
Some top government officials were allegedly indicted in ghost workers-related fraud, earning multiple salaries monthly.
The state NLC Chairman, Mr Titus Abana, gave the challenge at news conference by organised labour in Maiduguri on Friday.
Abana insisted that government must prosecute all those indicted in alleged corrupt practices according to the laid down rules of the civil service.
He said government violated the agreement it had with union in paying 19,000 workers who underwent physical verification.
“We were discussing with the government to reconsider its position when we had the governor saying he will only pay two months salaries to 11,397 workers who have been dully captured as authentic staff of the state.
“The labour is also really disappointed to hear the government announced about 10,000 civil servants as ghost workers even while the verification exercise was still ongoing.
“Going by the pronouncement of the Borno Government, the NLC, TUC, NUT and almost all chairmen of the state union are all ghost workers because all of us are yet to be verified.
“Also, the N2.7 billion figures of overall expenditure of salaries weight of the state civil servants as pronounced by the state government was also not true.
“As at July, the nominal workforce of the Borno civil servants is 22,596 out of the number, we have about 34 commissioners and 28 legislative members on the government’s payroll.
“The amounts also cover allowances of about two, 602 students of School of Health Technology, 39 education students and four members of the Teaching Service Board.
“Others included allowances for 1,060 widows, orphans and vulnerable under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and all of these people were captured by the biometric exercise.
“For example, we have about 12,484 pensioners who were not captured and are on government’s payroll and you cannot declare them as ghost workers,’’ Abana said.
“The organised labour, therefore, condemned the action and in-action of the Head of Service in the state toward nonchalant attitude in handling the affairs of the civil service,’’ he added.
According to him, the biometric exercise has not yielded any positive result in the last four months, rather it added to the suffering of the workers and their families.
Mrs Ibim Semenitari, acting Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has called on the public to disregard a statement credited to Rivers governor, Nyesom Wike over some road projects.
Semenitari made the call in a statement issued by Bekee Anyalewechi, her Special Assistant on Media, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Port Harcourt.
The statement said that Wike was wrong by his claim that NDDC was not the financier of the construction of Igwuruta-Chokocho-Okehia and Oil Mill-Igbo-Etche-Chokocho road projects in Etche LGA of the state.
“Ibim Semenitari debunks claims made by Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers that NDDC is not involved in the recovery of dilapidated road infrastructure in Etche local government area of the state.
“Wike is not only playing to the gallery, he is also hiding the fact of his failure to tackle the bigger challenge of insecurity plaguing the state.
“As an interventionist agency, NDDC stepped in to recover the roads between Igwuruta and Umuechem, as well as internal roads in the community and the Oil Mill-Igbo-Etche-Chokocho road.
“NDDC, working under the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari, stepped in to arrest the deterioration of the roads to boost economic activities and give residents a lease of life,” the statement said.
It added that checks could be made to verify Semenitari’s claim through a visit to the area to confirm the veracity of NDDC scope and quality of intervention on the roads.
It said the Oil Mill-Igbo-Etche-Chokocho road was critical because it connected Port Harcourt with agriculture and other economic produce spots in Etche.
“The public is assured that we will not relent on our efforts to complete those projects despite attempts to possibly stall their early completion,” the statement said.
It said that the commission was not interested in bickering with Wike, but was only interested in pursuing human and infrastructural development of the Niger Delta region.
The statement urged Wike to focus more of his attention to current insecurity in the state rather than engaging the commission “in a speech contest.’’
The All Progressives Congress (APC) assures Nigerians that the President Muhammadu Buhari APC-led administration remains solidly committed to resuscitating the economy in the quickest possible time and in the best interest of the people. The statement by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday is the latest in the Party’s insensitive plot to deflect attention from the voodoo economics and reckless fiscal policies the country was subjected to during its 16-year rule.
For the umpteenth time, the PDP lacks the moral basis and credibility to comment or condemn the government on the economy after the mess it left behind. Instead, the PDP must apologize to Nigerians.
The warning signs were glaring to the immediate-past administration but it choose the path of economic sabotage by looking the other way and squandering the country’s commonwealth – a reckless decision that has brought the country to its knees.
Nigerians will recall that even the immediate-past finance minister and coordinating minister of the economy, confessed that the zero political will to save under the immediate-past administration is responsible for the challenges facing the country.
Happily, the President Muhammadu Buhari administration has embarked on well- thought economic agendas, policy actions, appropriate fiscal, governance, and socio-political reforms to revamp the economy and tackle the nation’s current challenges in the short to long term.
Under the new flexible foreign exchange policy introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in June 2016, we now have a single market-determined exchange rate which enables suppliers of foreign currencies to bring in their money and take the same out at market-determined rates. The new foreign exchange policy being implemented will ensure our economy recovers in the medium to long term.
As contained in the assented 2016 National Budget, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is aggressively formulating and implementing policies aimed at diversifying Nigeria’s economy from oil to other sectors such as agriculture, mining and manufacturing.
The administration is also proactively tackling increased attacks on oil facilities in the Niger Delta region which has led to disruptions in crude production.
The President’s shuttle diplomacy has yielded positive effects on the country’s economic policies. As a result, several agreements concluded during the visits are positively impacting on key sectors of the Nigerian economy including power, solid minerals, agriculture, housing and rail transportation.
The fight against corruption remains a top priority for the President Buhari APC-led administration. In spite of desperate attempts by some partisans to discredit anti-corruption efforts in some quarters, the war against corruption is being won and has been well-received and supported. The generality of Nigerians agree that the days of impunity are over.
Through the full implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) by the President Muhammadu Buhari APC-led administration, revenue leakages have been greatly plugged.
The new petroleum products supply and pricing framework which eliminated corruption-tainted subsidy payments has among others greatly solved fuel scarcities by ensuring availability of products at all locations in the country; reduced hoarding, smuggling and diversion substantially and stabilise price at the actual product price; encouraged investments in both Refineries and Retails; provided Government more revenue to address social and infrastructural needs of the country.
In line with the critical infrastructural focus of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, an unprecedented 30 per cent of 2016 budgetary provision has been committed to capital projects.
As the administration works assiduously to build a new solid foundation, credible image and pull the country out of the present hardships, the APC appeals for patience and cooperation from Nigerians.

North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un has executed a senior official, Kim Yong-jin, 63, by firing squad for not sitting properly during a meeting, JoongAng Daily reports.
Yong-jin was the Vice Premier and Education minister in Jong-un’s cabinet.
Confirming the execution, the Unification Ministry spokesman, Jeong Joon-hee, said:
There have been many reports recently surrounding executions of North Korean officials. Vice premier Kim Yong-jin was executed and UFD director Kim Yong-chol was sent for revolutionary re-education. And Choe Hwi, a vice director of the Propaganda and Agitation Department of the Workers’ Party, is currently undergoing such re-education.
Jeong did not give details on why, where, and when the execution took place. However, a ministry official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that Yong-jin was arrested after he was seen sitting in a chair ‘with a bad attitude’ during a June 29 parliamentary meeting presided over by North Korean leader, Jong-un.
“At that meeting, Jong-un, was named chairman of the newly created State Affairs Commission, which supplanted the National Defense Commission.
The trouble for Kim began after he was seen sitting with bad attitude during a meeting of the People’s Supreme Assembly. He was later accused of being anti-revolutionary following a probe; and a firing squad execution was carried out in July,” the official said.
Former minister for Aviation-Femi Fani-Kayode has said that the United States and the United Kingdom participated in the removal of former president, Goodluck Jonathan from office. The former minister made the comment on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, via a post on Facebook.
The statement reads:
Many talk about corruption and spend their time accusing and pointing fingers at others yet these same people have stolen and pillaged more than anyone else, have killed more innocent people and have committed more grievous crimes and genocide against various sections of the Nigerian people between 1966 up until today than anyone else.
They are indeed the ‘hidden hand’ in the affairs of the Nigerian state or what some describe as the ‘secret government’. Just today, one of them publicly lamented the fact that history is no longer taught in our schools.
He forgot that he was the one that banned the teaching of history when he was Head of State in the mid-1970’s. He did that because he did not want future generations of Nigerians to know what he and the small group of people that put him there did before, during and after the civil war.
Since July 29,1966 that same group of people have effectively been running the affairs of this country from behind the scenes and they install and remove Presidents and Heads of State at will.
They determine virtually everything that happens here and who gets what. The truth is that they are the problem of Nigeria and none of them can ever be part of the solution.
They, in collusion with their foreign friends and partners which include the governments of the U.K. and the U.S., put Buhari in power and removed Jonathan last year.
Worst of all is the fact that they used the forces and spirit of radical Islam and the hatred of Christianity amongst northern Muslims to do it.That was their final act of wickedness against the Nigerian people and it was one wicked act too many. By the time this is all over there may not be a Nigeria left for them to rule and laud it all over anymore.
Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to listen to the cries of Nigerians and stop seeing those with opinions different from his own as threats to his hold on power.
A statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor said President Buhari should realise that “a nation of hungry people is a nation of angry people” and seek help from economic experts in the country, not minding their political, religious and ethnic affiliations.
Governor Fayose, who particularly singled out the two former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governors; Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II and Professor Charles Soludo, who spoke at different fora last week, said; “Instead of adopting the usual style of trying to silence them with EFCC or ICPC, the President should listen to them and take their advice on board because they are expert in economic matters”.
“The reality our President must face now is that there is too much hunger in the land, Nigerians are hungry, they are suffering and the President should rather listen to those who are more knowledgeable than him in terms of management of the country’s economy instead of seeing them as threats.
It is no longer about politics. Rather, it is about preventing hunger from exterminating Nigerians and I am sure that the president himself knows that hunger does not understand political parties.
A bag of rice that was less than N8,000 when President Buhari assumed office is now over N20,000! How can a civil servant that is earning N18, 000 minimum wage survive when his monthly salary cannot buy one bag of rice?
Even basic drugs and medicare are getting out the reach of the common people and the resultant effect of this will be avoidable deaths!
As at today, a bag of cement is N2, 200, increment of N600 on one bag in just one day. Within four months, exchange rate rose with more than 150%, with dollar that was a little above N200 then, now more than N400.
The harsh reality is that a Nigerian whose income was N100,000 per month in 2015 and still earning the same N100,000 now is actually earning less than N40,000 because what he could buy with N100,000 then cannot be bought with N200,000 now.
This is the worst time for parents whose children and wards will be going back to school in September. How to pay school fees is causing depression for a lot of parents in just over a year of the Buhari’s administration.
All these are signs that President Buhari needs help from those who can assist the country to avert this imminent economic collapse and he should not be ashamed to consult even those who ran the economy under the PDP government of Dr Goodluck Jonathan because it appears that things were better then than now.
Therefore, rather than preoccupying himself with newspaper cartoons, our President should listen to suggestions being offered by Nigerians on ways to bring the country’s economy out of recession that it is now,” Fayose was quoted as saying.
A woman namely, Ifeoma Eke, and three others on Wednesday appeared before an Enugu East Magistrates’ Court for selling her baby for N500,000.
The four accused persons were arrested on February 19 for operating a baby factory at Ogwuago, Abakpa-Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area.
The prosecutor, Peace Okpara, told the court that the accused persons operated a business where young women were made pregnant, nursed and the baby would be sold out after birth.
Okpara said that a certain amount would be given to the baby’s mother based on the agreement between the mother and the accused persons.
She said that the first accused person gave birth to her baby after which she conspired with the other accused persons for the baby to be sold for N500,000.
Okpara said the offences contravened the Trafficking in Persons Prohibition Law Enforcement and Administration Act, 2003 as amended.
The Magistrate, Chuks Mbah, who had granted the accused bail in March, declined jurisdiction when the matter was mentioned for hearing.
He ordered that the case file be transferred to the Director for Public Prosecution for advice and adjourned the matter to October 28.
Members of a notorious kidnapping gang that has been terrorizing Benue state have been arrested today, by Benue state security agencies. Six school children were rescued, some have been reunited with their families while some are yet to identify their parents.
The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the British Government on immigration returns and proper profiling of the nationalities of migrants.
The Minister of Interior, Retired Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja in a statement signed by Mr Willie Bassey, Director Press of the ministry.
He said that the profiling of migrants would be done through biometric and biographic data.
The minister said the signing of the Addendum to the 2005 MoU on Immigration Returns between the Government of Nigeria and the United Kingdom was done in Abuja.
Dambazau stated that the MoU was a review of the initial bilateral agreement signed in 2005 between the countries on the return of illegal immigrants, as well as for legal migrants who overstayed their visas.
He said that the review was informed by the new challenges that have emerged, which could only be met by reviewing the Agreement, adding that such challenges include the difficulties in ascertaining the correct nationalities of some immigrants.
He noted that “the Addendum being signed concerns the use of biometric and biographic data and addresses the concerns of the government of Nigeria regarding the true identity of some migrants.”
In a response, the leader of the UK delegation and Minister of State for Immigration, Robert Goodwill, described the Addendum as a significant modernisation on the earlier MoU.
He stressed the importance of preventing immigration abuse by those who entered and left the UK illegally.
He commended the Minister of Interior for driving the process, which culminated in the signing of the MoU.
In his remarks, the Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammad Babandede, said innovations were introduced to make the Nigerian passport acceptable globally, by making it machine- readable. (NAN)
A former Minister of Education and former Presidential Adviser, Professor Ango Abdullahi, has said that Nigeria’s unity is negotiable, adding that the “wish of being one is Utopian”.
According to THISDAY, the former Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria suggested that if the amalgamation of the country by Lord Frederick Lugard in 1914 was a mistake, it would be best for each region to go their separate ways.
He made this known during the launch of two books by Dr. Hadiza Isa Wada titled, ‘Boko Haram: The Charade vs. Reality’, and ‘The Life and Times of Umaru Turakin Bauchi’.
He argued that no region is afraid of secession, and that if the country cannot stay together, then each region should go their separate ways.
The batures (Hausa for white people) have brought us together. They tried what they could before they left in 1960 to see whether this country could become a political unit that is stable, because without political stability it is impossible to stabilise any aspect of our socio-economic development.
They succeeded up to a point, but they were very lucky because they had our forefathers and founding fathers who were honest.
We might not be one, in terms of language or in terms of geographical location or in terms of customs or in terms of history or in terms of religion and so on, but as a people put in one country our first job is to understand one another.
Let’s understand one another. Understanding one another will be the basis for working together. This wish of being one is Utopian because if you look at examples of other parts of the world there’s a lot to learn from.
Take for example India that got independence in 1948, yet one or two years later Pakistan was created, and in another one or two years, Bangladesh emerged out of Pakistan, because there was insufficient basis on which India would stay together in the first place.
We are responsible for the conditions we’re experiencing today and that we have experienced over the years. This is the basis on which we have made slow or no progress in our development and I think we can accept this as a fact, or continue to pretend and go round and round and round in circles and at the end of the day come back to the same spot.
What are we hearing? We’re hearing about the restructuring of Nigeria. We’re hearing about secession, we’re hearing all sorts of things and who are the promoters of this rhetoric?
This is coming from the elite of the country. They’re right to speak their minds, but they should also leave me to speak my mind when the time is right because we cannot continue, because I remember in the last four or five years, particularly when we were headed towards the last elections. We saw all that and then I said it was time.
If Lugard made a mistake in 1914 let’s correct it now. Why not? If Nigerians cannot live together and allow peace and development to reign, then let’s go our separate ways and to our different places so that we can concentrate and develop our children and grandchildren in peace.
There’s nothing wrong with that. So many countries have gone through that before. So I don’t believe in all these emotions and sentiments that Nigeria is indissoluble.
Take Great Britain, they’ve been a model for 1,000 years of democracy and then a year or two ago Scotland that had been in the union for about 350 years opted for a referendum to get out; same problem with Ireland.
The Soviet Union was a super power many years ago, today 12 or 13 countries were created from it.
So what is so special about Nigeria? If we find truly that we cannot develop and guarantee the welfare of our people as a nation and the solution is to go our separate ways, why not?
So you see this is the thing we have to always discuss at all times honestly, especially if we put into context the history of Boko Haram.
On the Boko Haram Terrorist sect, he said the ‘ragtag boys’ who were fed up with the things happening to them became members of Boko Haram.
“You ask the question where did Boko Haram got their sophistication and articulation from? No doubt from external connections, but external connections can only thrive if they have internal connections in the country itself.
But then came robberies and Boko Haram was blamed, then came in political interference.
Bombs were also put in churches and mosques and they were not entirely put by Muslims but by both religions. But the real offence was people who knew and should have spoken out did not do so.
Some of us including my teacher and I went to see (Goodluck) Jonathan to discuss it. Some days later, and we heard there was going to be some dialogue, but then two weeks later a state of emergency was declared and Boko Haram was banned.
So the question is who are you dialoguing with if you have banned Boko Haram? These are some of the contradictions we saw, which were clearly political.
We the northerners were taking the brunt of it. And those who ought to have said something stayed quiet. It was Murtala Nyako who came out and said something was going on and before you know it he was on exile,” he added
Abdullahi, who condemned the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) as ‘economic terrorists’, asked the federal government to deal decisively with the militia group, in order to end vandalism in the oil region.
“In the Niger Delta, for example, people who come out openly and say they are avenging something and that they are fighting to avenge something, they’re worse than Boko Haram. So if you (federal government) are not going to fight the Niger Delta Avengers then stop fighting Boko Haram,” he said.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in real terms declined by 2.06% in second quarter of 2016.
This is contained in the Nigerian Gross Domestic Product Report for Second Quarter of 2016 released by NBS on Wednesday in Abuja.
The report stated that the figure was lower by 1.70% points from the negative growth rate of 0.36 per cent recorded in the preceding quarter.
It stated that it was also lower by 4.41 per cent points from the growth rate of 2.35 per cent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2015.
Quarter on quarter, real GDP increased by 0.82 per cent during the quarter, nominal GDP was N23, 483,954.78 million (in nominal terms) at basic prices.
This was 2.73% higher than the second quarter 2015 value of N22, 859,153.01 million.
This growth was lower than the rate recorded in the second quarter of 2015 by 2.44% points.
The Nigerian economy can be more clearly understood according to the oil and non-oil sector classifications.
The report said that during the period under review, oil production was estimated at 1.69 million barrels per day (mbpd), 0.42 million barrels per day lower from production in first quarter of 2016.
It said that oil production was also lower relative to the corresponding quarter in 2015 by 0.36 million barrels per day when output was recorded at 2.05mbp.
Meanwhile, the report said that growth in the non-oil sector was largely driven by the activities in seven areas of the economy.
It listed the seven areas as Agriculture, Information and Communication, Water supply, Arts entertainment and recreation, Professional scientific and technical services, Education and other services.
According to the report, the areas have grown positively while the remaining 19 major sectors, many of which are substantially indirectly dependent on the oil sector have recorded negative growth.
The non-oil sector accordingly declined by 0.38 per cent in real terms in the second quarter of 2016.
This growth rate was 0.20 per cent points lower than the first quarter of 2016 (-0.18 per cent), and 3.84 per cent points lower from the corresponding quarter in 2015 (3.46 per cent).
In real terms, the non-oil sector contributed 91.74 per cent to the nation’s GDP, higher from shares recorded in the first quarter of 2016 (89.71 per cent) and the second quarter of 2015 (90.20 per cent).
By economic principles, an economy is said to be in recession when these contractions are observed at least over two quarters.
Therefore, the results of second quarter of 2016 GDP growth rate has placed Nigeria in recession from a professional point of view.
However, the presidency has said that although there is a decline, the figures indicated an hopeful expectation in the country’s economic trajectory.
A statement from the Office of the Vice President quoted Dr. Adeyemi Dipeolu, the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Economic Matters as saying:
A close look at the data shows that this outcome was mostly due to a sharp contraction in the oil sector due to huge losses of crude oil production as a result of vandalisation and sabotage.
However, the rest of the Q2 data is beginning to tell a different story. There was growth in the agricultural and solid minerals sectors which are the areas in which the Federal Government has placed particular priority.
Agriculture grew by 4.53% in the second quarter of 2016 as compared with 3.09% in the first quarter. The metal ores sector showed similar performance with coal mining, quarrying and other minerals also showing positive growth of over 2.5%. Notably also, the share of investments in GDP increased to its highest levels since 2010, growing to about 17% of Gross Domestic Product.
The manufacturing sector though not yet truly out of the woods is beginning to show signs of recovery while the service sector similarly bears watching.
Nevertheless, the data already shows a reduction in imports and an increase in local produced goods and services and this process will be maintained although it will start off slowly in these initial stages before picking up later.
The inflation rate remains high but the good news is that the month-on-month rate of increase has fallen continuously over the past three months.
Unemployment remains stubbornly high which is usually the case during growth slowdowns and for reasons of a structural nature.
The picture that emerges, barring unforeseen shocks, is that the areas given priority by the Federal Government are beginning to respond with understandable time lags to policy initiatives. Indeed, as the emphasis on capital expenditure begins to yield results and the investment/GDP numbers increase, the growth rate of the Nigerian economy is likely to improve further.
As these trends continue, the outlook for the rest of the year is that the Nigerian economy will beat the IMF prediction of -1.8% for the full year 2016.
The IMF had forecasted a growth of -1.8% for 2016, however the economy is performing better than the IMF estimates so far. For the half year it stands at -1.23% compared to an average of -1.80% expected on average by the IMF.
What is more, it is likely the second half will be better than the first half of 2016. This is because many of the challenges faced in the first half either no longer exist or have eased.
The Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has said that he is not the problem of the Nigerian sports sector.
He made the statement to State House Correspondents after briefing President Muhammadu Buhari on the performance of the Nigerian contingent at the just concluded Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
“I am not the problem of Nigerian sports. Abysmal performance has been happening before me,” the minister was quoted as saying.
On the reason for Nigeria’s poor performance at the Games, Dalung said that it was due to late release of funds and inability to develop home-grown talents.
According to the minister, it was time Nigeria returned to the grassroots and groom talents for future competitions.
On the appointment of the new foreign coach, Gernot Rohr, Dalung said he wished him the best, although he was yet to be informed officially.
He also decried the way Samson Siasia was treated by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), saying that the nation still needs Siasia for football development.
He lamented the fact that Siasia’s official car was withdrawn while he was still in Rio, adding that it would be sad to lose him to another country who appreciates his worth.
Dalung said that after meeting with Japanese Surgeon Dr. Katsuya Takasu in Rio, he was convinced that there were no strings like match-fixing, attached to his $390,000 donation to the team.
Mark Zuckerberg is getting serious about adding new “friends” in Africa.
The Facebook founder visited Sub-Saharan Africa for the first time on Tuesday, touching down in Lagos, Nigeria. He met with local businesses and developers in an effort to understand how Facebook (FB, Tech30) could “better support tech development and entrepreneurship across Africa,” the company said in a statement.
His visit included a trip to a Yaba, known as the Silicon Valley of Nigeria, where he toured a coding camp for kids and met with about 50 local startup founders and developers at CcHub, a local innovation center.
Zuckerberg told CNN: “There’s so much energy and so much potential here. I just want to walk around and meet folks.”
As Zuckerberg walked down the street, he drew loud cheers from passer-by’s .Zuckerberg has been increasingly involved in African initiatives this year.
In June, his foundation, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative made a multi-million dollar investment in Andela, a two-year-old startup that trains African software developers and gives them full-time roles at international companies.
Andela’s director Seni Sulyman said it was a thrill to welcome Zuckerberg.
Aisha Wakil, who is believed to be close to the Boko Haram leadership, says the group is ready for talks with the Federal Government on the fate of the 219 missing Chibok girls, The Nation reports.
Speaking to The Nation over the telephone, Aisha said the leadership of the terrorist sect will make a pronouncement on their plans for the girls soon.
“Since I came back, I have been on their neck. They have now agreed to come out and discuss with the government and bring back the girls. I am for the Chibok girls and all the captives. They are ready for peace. This is what they told me. I think they might post some information on YouTube within 24 hours,” she said.
A 37-year-old man, Sikiru Olanrewaju, reportedly died in his sleep after having rounds of sex with his girlfriend on Surulere street in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State, PUNCH reports.
The report stated that the girlfriend alerted neighbours after discovering in the morning that his was dead.
The girlfriend’s landlady reported the case at the Oke-Odo Police Division.
The lover was said to have raised the alarm which drew the attention of residents, including the landlady, who reported at the Oke-Odo Police Division.
Lagos Police, Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, who confirmed the incident said:
The man was allegedly found dead in a room in the Abule Egba area after spending the night with his girlfriend. A team of police detectives from the Oke-Odo Police Division visited, examined, and photographed the scene. We discovered that there was no trace of violence on the body. The corpse has been deposited in a morgue.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the deceased worked with an aviation company as a clearing agent, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.
“The man was married, but he had a girlfriend who lived in Abule Egba. On August 23, he had finished from work when he called her on the telephone that he would be sleeping at her place.
The girlfriend said she told him not to come because he was married, but he insisted on passing the night at her house.
The lady said when he got to her place, they ate the same food and drank the same water. They had sex, after which they slept.
She said around 5AM, she woke up to go to work and discovered he was stiff. She said she tried hard to wake him up, but he didn’t respond. She said she was too confused to know what to do and waited for about three hours before raising the alarm, which drew the attention of people, including the landlady,” the neighbour said.
According to PUNCH, a source said Olanrewaju’s family were immediately contacted and the police broke the news to them.
“The family said they don’t want the police to investigate anything. They said they had received the news in good faith and that the corpse should be released for burial in accordance with Islamic rites. I am not sure his wife has been informed because she did not follow them to the station. But obviously, she will not receive the news well,” the source said.

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi has ordered the immediate sack of some non-academic staff of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) and Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo.
Umahi gave the order in Abakaliki on Saturday while receiving the report of a committee to review the activities in the institutions.
“It is not economically viable for the institutions to recruit adjunct staff in the non-academic cadre, as the employees will be redundant in their duties.
It does not make ‘economic sense’ for the institutions to employ 400 cleaners as one wonders the scope and nature of work they will be doing.
We know that the managements postulated ‘professional sense’ in employing such workers but with the prevailing economic situation in the country, we should effectively merge it with ‘economic sense’,” he said.
The governor also ordered that promotion of staff in both institutions be suspended until the visitation panel concluded its duties.
He also directed the state’s fiscal responsibility commission to investigate activities in both institutions.
“When we conclude all reviews and investigations, I am optimistic that we can reduce their tuition fees as obtained in other states of the South East geo-political zone. We are unhappy that our students seek academic pursuits in other states due to high tuition fees, and we are committed to solving all the problems confronting these institutions,” he said.
The governor also ordered that the salaries of workers under the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) be paid immediately provided there was an agreement between the ministry of health and the concerned local governments.
“The salaries of those who do not have any binding agreement should also be paid but it must be on equal basis with workers on the same grade level in other segments of the civil service.
We have agreed that workers not enjoying CONHESS due to deficiencies in certificates should be paid a special ‘hazard allowance to motivate them,” he said.
The Chairman of the committee, Professor Chigozie Ogbu, noted that it solicited the assistance of all unions and interest groups for effective discharge of its duties.
Ogbu, a former deputy governor of the state, noted that the committee urged the unions to shelve their planned strike and other acts that might disrupt academic activities in the institutions.
The Chairman of the committee on CONHESS, Ignatius Unah, noted that most of the workers did not deserve it, as they were recruited to settle political patronage.
“The case of cemetery workers was most intriguing as more than 100 workers collect CONHESS when there are non-existent cemeteries in the state,” he said.
Flight operations were disrupted at the International terminal of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMA), Lagos, for two days; Saturday and Sunday, following continued power outage there.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the power outage affected international operations of airlines flying in and out of the airport.
The General Manager, Public Affairs, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Yakubu Dati, confirmed the development on Sunday in Lagos to newsmen.
“There was a power outage from the PHCN and the airport has continued to rely on our independent power supply.
However, when power was restored, the surge adversely affected the K16 transformer that serves the Air-bridges and rendered them unserviceable.
This has adversely affected operations of departing flights. The heavy rainfall has further delayed attempts by our electrical engineers to effect repairs immediately,” he said.
However, FAAN had apologised to passengers, airlines and the general public for the inconvenience caused by the development.
The authority said that efforts were being made to find a lasting solution to it
NAN gathered that as a result of this development at the nation’s busiest airport, passengers that were either boarding or disembarking aircraft now use the ramps rather than the tarmac fingers.
As at Saturday, August 27, the disruption necessitated by the power failure affected international flights operated by KLM/Air France, British Airways, Lufthansa and South Africa Airways.
A source close to one of the airlines told NAN that the disruption continued on Sunday as electricity had not been restored.
The source said that passengers on international flights operated by Arik Air, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Air Maroc also used the ramp.
The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) has described as untrue, a news report that it had named Professor Wole Soyinka as one of its advisers in the planned dialogue with Nigeria’s federal government.
The militant group, in a statement by its spokesperson, Mudoch Agbinibo, on Saturday, expressed its support for Edwin Kiagbodo Clark to lead the Pan Niger Delta Negotiation/Dialogue Team to discuss with the federal government.
This clarification is coming few days after the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) had pledged its support and unalloyed loyalty to Clark on the struggle for dialogue.
The militant group noted that some names being paraded as factions of the NDA were the figment of “characters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) from Niger Delta, bent on protecting their jobs.
The militant group further said that Prof. Soyinka has been taken for a ride because of his position on the restructuring of Nigeria and the need to listen to the Niger Delta agitators.
Read the statement below:
The High Command of the Niger Delta Avengers are bothered again on the insensitivity to the genuine plight of the Niger Delta agitation by every successive government of Nigeria and the present handlers of the APC government. We are amazed that Prof. Wole Soyinka, has been taken on the jugular by enemies of the Niger Delta because of his belief that the government of the day should understand the need to restructuring and listen to the Niger Delta agitation positively.
That if, we the NDA have named Prof Wole Soyinka and some incredible names to advise and lead any group is the Lie of The Century! They say, ‘when a handshake goes beyond the elbow it has turned to another thing; amazingly, the handwriting is so clear that our noble laureate’s name is going the infamous way, as he is being named as an adviser, alongside some unscrupulous characters as Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) dialogue team with the government of Nigeria.
Putting the records straight; the name/names parading as factions of the Niger Delta Avengers are just the figment of some persons protecting their jobs and hell bent on derailing the wheel of progress in the history of Nigeria and the Niger Delta agitation.
Our strike teams and Command structures have not at anytime contacted these Nigerians to advise or lead any contact with the government of Muhammadu Buhari on the Niger Delta agitation. We have shown our respect and restraints to personalities that have been too fixated to impress Abuja in the name of the Niger Delta struggle since the beginning of ‘Operation Red Economy’ ignorantly or willingly.
The NDA cannot be teleguided by Charles Okah and Henry Okah from their respective prison cells using disorganised characters of the All Progressive Congress (APC), from the Niger Delta to impress Abuja. We are not unaware of the creations of the Nigerian Intelligentsia community and security apparatus to sustain the Niger Delta struggle to bloat their pocket and credibility.
The NDA have unequivocally given our tacit support to the Edwin Kiagbodo Clark-led Niger Delta Elders and Stakeholders conference committee to lead the Pan Niger Delta Negotiations/Dialogue Team, whenever this wicked entity called Nigeria shows readiness.
Recall that Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to President Muhammadu Buhari recently said that the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has met with “more than 30 different groups” that claim to be original representatives of the NDA.
“At the end of the day, you don’t know who to talk with, and that has been a major hindrance to the dialogue,” Adesina had stated.
Super Eagles’ former Captain and defender, Joseph Yobo, has said that the Joseph Yobo Foundation would work to release as many inmates of Ikoyi Prisons, especially those awaiting trial.
Yobo spoke at the inauguration of Ikoyi Prisons Football Academy on Saturday in Lagos.
“I have never been to the prisons before but on getting to Ikoyi Prisons, I realised the need to give hope to someone.
The Joseph Yobo Foundation is ready to do everything within its means to grant bail to as many as possible that are awaiting trial, especially those in the facility’s football academy.
I am happy with what is going on in this facility. I have never been here before but when I got here, what I saw jolted me.
I thought I will see persons looking very sad, rushing to go out but rather, I saw them very happy, cheerful and looking very hopeful.
I must indeed commend the authorities of the Nigerian Prisons Service because from what I have seen on ground, the service is in the right track,” he said.
Yobo said that it was in this light that his foundation would seek to secure the bail for some of the inmates, train them and support them in the academy.
“We in our little way will want to give back to the society by giving hope to our brothers here behind the bars and give them a second chance because no one is above mistake. Having stayed here for a while, I am convinced that they must have undergone a great deal of reformation and rehabilitation,” he said.
One of footballer inmates, who did not want his name mentioned, said he was looking forward to benefiting from the foundation.
He added that with his experience so far he would not disappoint those behind the initiative.
Joseph Yobo Foundation is collaborating with Sisters Cities Vocational/Rehabilitation Centre and the Nigerian Prisons Service in the latter’s football academy project, “Football Stars Behind Bars”.
NAN reports that among the dignitaries that graced the event was a former Governor of Cross River, Donald Duke and his wife, Onari.
The Borno Government announced on Thursday that it had abolished the Committee for the Feeding of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this followed a protest by some displaced persons over poor feeding.
Hundreds of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) on Thursday, barricaded the Kano-Maiduguri highway to protest against hunger and thirst in their various camps.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Mamman Durkwa, told newsmen in Maiduguri that government had approved the immediate abolition of the Committee.
Durkwa, who described the protest as unfortunate, said that the government would not allow greed and self interests to impede efforts to assist the IDPs.
NAN further reports that IDPs from Marte Local Government Area had taken to the streets to protest poor feeding by the authorities.
“The whole thing took us by surprise, I was on my way to the Bakassi IDP camp to distribute food items for household feeding when I got information about the problem.
I immediately proceeded to the place where I learnt that the IDPs were protesting over some issues.
They wanted the feeding Committee abolished and also wanted the quantity and quality of their food to be increased.
We have resolved the problems by announcing the immediate abolition of the feeding Committee,” he said.
He said government had directed the immediate commencement of household feeding in the camp as requested by the IDPs.
“I have directed the State Emergency Management Committee (SEMA) to start giving out food items to the IDPs for the commencement of household feeding in the camp. Already, we have started the household feeding system in camps like Monguno, Kukawa, Gubio, Gwoza, Nganze, Guza-Mala and many others, and it had been quite successful,” Durkwa said.
He said the IDPs’ protest was instigated by some hoodlums to cause breakdown of law and order in the state.
“The IDPs were instigated by some outsiders trying to cause havoc in town with the intent to steal. This is because one of the youths apprehended confirmed that he came from Madugannari to join the IDPs’ camp for the protest. They wanted to cause a riot so they that can loot and maim but we were able to control the situation,” Durkwa said.

The Niger Delta Coastal States’ Monarchs on Thursday gave six conditions for the Federal Government to achieve and sustain the peace in the region.
Williston Okirika, the Bolowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, read out the conditions on behalf of the chiefs when they visited the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe kachikwu, on Thursday.
“We wish to state here that as a matter of urgency, the Federal Government should appoint or constitute a Federal Government Dialogue Team.
Release of 10 innocent school children arrested by the Nigerian Army on May 28th in Oporoza and others in detention on trumped up charges.
Return of the Golden Sword, being the symbol of authority of the Gbaramato traditional institution,” he said.
Other conditions he said, included return of the three traditional council speed boats in custody of the Nigerian army.
He added there must be cessation of hostilities perpetrated by the military in the Niger Delta Region.
“Equally important, the Federal Government should make a categorical statement about the opening of the Maritime University- Okerenkoko, Delta, for academic activities in 2016 /2017 session,” he said.
He assured that the monarchs would continue to support every effort that would help bring peace and sanity in the region.
Responding, Kachikwu commended the monarchs for the visit and said that restoring peace in the region was imperative.
He said the ceasefire announced by the Niger Delta Avengers was a welcome development, adding that every effort must be made to sustain it.
He said that it was unfortunate that after the announcement it was heard that pipeline in Nembe community was vandalised and the country lost about 150 barrels of oil and a high quantity of gas.
“This inability to stay steadfast creates military intervention because government cannot seat down and watch production go down.
The president has shown a lot of patience and believed that engaging the communities is the best model.
You should continue to reach out to others to ensure total ceasefire because as production goes down, it affects both states in tackling the financial burdens,” he said.
Kachikwu said that Federal Government had spent about $40 billion in refurbishing the region in the last 10 years.
He said that there was the need for the money to be applied in the proper way to ensure development.
He urged the people and royal fathers to ensure that monies were channeled in the proper way for the region.
He said that government was ready to always support a positive course for the region as it had lost 50 per cent of its revenue to drop in oil price and worsen by militants operations.
Presently, production has reduced from 1.6 million barrel per day to 1.4 million; may translate to 60% down in revenue generation.
“The people that pay the biggest price for militancy is the Niger Delta, time has come to engage in solid dialogue and everybody has a role to play. Ceasefire must stay to enable the military stop interference, we must find positive way to solve the problem of the region,” he said

Four persons, including a man believed to be the son of a World Bank contractor, have drowned in Egbe River in Egbe community of Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State
According to PUNCH, they were said to be working on a World Bank assessment mission to the river and had commenced work on Tuesday night.
The report stated that they were said to have come from Development Dams and Irrigation Scheme, Kaduna State.
Sources said they drowned after their boat capsized. The four occupants who didn’t wear jackets died, and the remaining three survived.
The chairman of Gbonyin Local Government Area, Folasade Akinrinmola mobilised local fishermen who retrieved the bodies of the dead.
Akinrinmola said that she was notified of the incident by the traditional ruler of the community.
“We immediately mobilised a rescue team and an ambulance and those wearing life jackets were rescued. The rescued people were the ones who told us that others were still in the water. Their bodies were later retrieved by the local fishermen.
We believe that they were there based on some of the proposals we had written on the dam and how it could be put to use; and we believe that the World Bank had started work on the river based on the call,” she said.
The bodies of the victims have been deposited at the mortuary in Ode-Ekiti, headquarters of the council area.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, Alberto Adeyemi, confirmed the incident, adding that “they must have come from the federal ministry, because dams are owned by the Federal Government. Their boat capsized; four of them died, while three survived”.

A truck driver on Thursday reportedly halted traffic along Ore-Ijebu-Ode road after he stopped his vehicle to pray in the middle of the road.
A Facebook user, CHarm Xtova, who shared the photo said:
I do not derive joy from castigating other people’s religion but a tanker driver praying on the highway and keeping us stuck on ore – ijebu ode road is way over the limit.
If u respect your God, You’ll understand how to be considerate.

A similar case occurred some weeks ago in Florida, where a 28-year-old woman crashed her car into a Mary Esther house while driving and praying. She was later taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Joe Fortemose Chinakwe, the man who named his dog after President Muhammadu Buhari is right now probably regretting his decision to honour his dog with the name of a man he considers his hero. He has been accused of trying to incite hate and breach the public peace. He has been arrested and re-arrested by the police and taken to a magistrate court, which promptly remanded him in prison until he is able to meet the conditions of his bail. He has spent days in prison custody unable to raise the N50, 000 that he has been asked to pay. His family members have only so far managed to raise N20, 000. Even if he succeeds in putting that sum together, his life is still in danger because aggrieved persons in his neighbourhood, including a man who says he was trying to ridicule his father, have threatened to kill him, if he shows up. The police are not investigating this threat, but they seem so excited about dealing with the poor trader called Joe, for having the effrontery to name his dog, Buhari.
To protect himself, Joseph has allegedly put the dog to sleep, or thrown it away or whatever, in the hope that once the evidence is destroyed there will be no case against him. It is all so pitiable. Public opinion appears to be divided as to the nature and seriousness of Joseph Chinakwe’s alleged felony, with some people arguing that it is definitely an act of provocation and incitement for him to label his dog, Buhari so boldly and to parade the same dog in a neighbourhood where there are many residents of Northern extraction, whose feelings may be injured or who may perceive that he is trying to make a political statement.
Those who want him punished have therefore dismissed Chinakwe’s protestation that he is an admirer of the President, or that he means well. His defenders insist that he is entitled to free speech and there is nowhere in the statutes where a man can be punished on the basis of the perception that some people’s feelings may be injured, and hence, be prompted to commit murder. The law is not structured that way.
We are dealing, therefore with ethnic hate at the lunatic fringe. Nigerians have become so suspicious of one another, and inter-ethnic relationship is so poisonous that even the littlest innocent gesture could result in mayhem. This is why many have been killed for allegedly committing blasphemy or for insulting the religious sensibilities of some people. Remember the woman who was killed by her students for allegedly desecrating the Quoran. Remember Gideon Akaluka. Remember the woman who was recently beheaded in Abuja for daring to preach the Christian gospel. We are also dealing with disregard for human freedom, and Nigeria’s slip into a tragic season of intolerance. Why shouldn’t Chinakwe call his dog whatever name catches his fancy? Well, may be he should have chosen an Igbo name? But if we want national unity, why shouldn’t he take a name he admires from another part of the country?
Ali Baba, the ace comedian, like many others, has come out strongly in defence of Chinakwe saying he actually has a dog in his house named OBJ, and that is quite direct because only one man bears that sobriquet in this country, and neither OBJ nor his kinsmen have asked Atuyota to leave Yorubaland. One of the most famous pictures online is that of a goat named Goodluck Jonathan, with the name written on both flanks of it. President Jonathan’s wife was also once (July 2013) referred to as “shepopotamus” by Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, and before our very eyes, President Olusegun Obasanjo, donated, to a conservation sanctuary, a chimpanzee, which he named Patience to make a point obviously.
The parody at the time was unmistakable. We all drew humour from all of that. What we seem to be dealing with right now, however, is the absurd deification of a name on ethnic and partisan grounds. It is curious that the Nigeria Police is devoting to the trial of Chinakwe, a feverish amount of energy that we have not witnessed with regard to more statutorily relevant offences. This hullaballoo over the giving of a dog a name that has led to its hanging and the likely punishment of its owner is one distraction too many. We are above all else, dealing with a storm in a tea cup, occasioned by a culture shock, and our underdeveloped understanding of the relationship between man and animals.
Chinakwe says he chose the name Buhari out of admiration. And he may well be right, and he would have been right, and there would have been no problem if he was living in Europe or North America. But he lives in a country where animals have no rights and no recognition other than as victims of human predators, and a dog in our culture is to be treated as an instrument or as meat for the soup pot. Elsewhere, a dog has earned its reputation in mythology and actuality, as a man’s best friend. The root of this is that a dog is considered the most beloved, the most loyal and the most dependable of all animals. People use dogs to guard their homes, to keep away intruders, even to play with children and as companions in the home. There are many stories and legends about the loyalty of dogs. Hawkeye is the name of a famous dog who lay next to the casket of its owner who died in active service as a US Navy SEAL.
There is a film, “Hachi, a dog’s tale,” starring Richard Gere, about Hachiko, a dog who greeted his owner at the train station everyday and after the owner died, the dog went to the same station for nine years. Recently, I posted on instagram the picture of a dog in Santa Catarina, Brazil, Negao the dog, whose owner died eight months earlier and the dog remained outside the hospital awaiting his owner’s return. In the United States, a police dog has been given a state burial, draped with national colours in appreciation of its loyal and meritorious service to the nation. Many centuries ago, Homer wrote in Odyssey, about a loyal dog, Argos who waited for Odysseus until he returned.
The established normal is that a dog can be trusted more than a human being. And this is why in other parts of the world, when people name their dogs after celebrities, they are actually paying compliments and showing respect. World figures like Elvis Presley, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Louis Vuitton, Mandela, Clinton, J. F. Kennedy and others have had their names given to either cats or dogs, and it is no big deal. Admirers transpose their feelings from man to animal. Joseph Chinakwe may actually be saying that President Buhari is a loyal, trustworthy, supportive, dependable and companionable Guardian of the Nigerian estate. It would have been a different thing perhaps if he had given that name to a tortoise, a rat, cat, a fox, or a chimpanzee. But in a country where every animal is considered a prey or a lower, spiteful creature, using the metaphor of a dog could be risky as the Chinakwe case has shown. In Nigeria, we treat animals badly, and we don’t consider anyone a friend, man or animal. We are vengeful, mean and suspicious. We are so scared we are even afraid of domestic and domesticated animals.
In other societies, animals are treated with greater respect and in the United States for example, the life of a dog is far superior to that of a human being in Nigeria. I have written about this twice: In “A Dog’s Life” (1996), I reflected on the life of a dog owned by Stanley Meisler (God bless his soul) and his wife, Elizabeth Fox, my hosts during my journalism programme at the University of Maryland, College Park, United States (1996 -97). I was shocked that the dog had a room of its own, a proper room, not a kernel, and whenever that dog fell ill, we took him to a dog hospital and Stanley bought drugs. I saw that dog living the life of a king, better catered for than many Africans.
I wrote another piece titled “A Hotel for Dogs” (July 23, 2006) about a five-star hotel in Bethesda, Washington, which attends to dogs as customers, and where dogs enjoy a life of luxury. Established in 2003, by PetSmart Inc., by 2006, there were 32 hotels of its type in the United States and the then spokesman of the group, Bruce Richardson, had boasted that by 2010, the plan was to have 240 such hotels across the United States. We are talking luxury, 23 USD per night, 33USD for a dog suite, as at that time, all pre-tax, plus provisions for pooch ice cream. In general, Americans spend about $40 billion dollars a year on household pets. I guess that is more than Nigeria’s annual budget even by today’s relative standards.
And so, what are we talking about? An American dog is a big man in Nigeria by all standards. But because we eat dogs and treat all animals badly in this country, in fact we have no regard for human beings (consider the hundreds that get killed, raped, kidnapped daily and nobody cares), we are bound to be incensed that anyone would name a dog after a deified political figure. Joe Chinakwe’s sins should be forgiven, albeit there is no morality in law, but the Nigerian judiciary should not expose itself to further ridicule by lending the weight of the law to such partisan trash that makes no sense. There are far more important issues requiring serious attention in this country today.
But in case nobody understands that and Mr Chinakwe and his counsel find themselves in a tight corner, they should put out a disclaimer and say their dog, living or dead, is filing for a change of name. That is perfectly within their rights to do. And should they find themselves in any other difficult situation, they have my full permission to rename the dog, Reuben Abati. But should you, dear reader consider this a bad name you wish to hang, you also have my full support, partnership and friendship to offer your own name.
If that will put an end to this circus over the name of a dog, and set Joseph Chinakwe free, and also remind us that we are in a democracy, please, help and so be it. By the way, I hear Chinakwe and his sympathisers finally managed, after a fund-raising appeal, to raise a sum of N90, 000 to perfect his bail bond and that he is now out of detention. Would somebody in a responsible position just put an end to this joke and let us focus on serious issues?

U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, has expressed U.S. Government readiness to support and enhance girl-child education in Nigeria.
Kerry said this in his opening remarks before a closed door meeting with some Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students and other gifted girls’ groups in Abuja on Wednesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that STEM is a U.S. programme aimed at encouraging girl-child education in science and technology.
Others at the meeting include “opportunity students” under the U.S Scholarship Programme, Violere Group.
The secretary expressed concern that there were many girls who never had the opportunity to go to school, while many others were forced into early marriage.
He said the U.S Government was ready to work with the Federal Government to help girls have better education.
“So, we are working very hard to empower the girls through education so that they will be able to make their choices. Now, we want to see how we can all work together to empower everybody to make their choices. We can all together make our communities work, so that we can have a better society,” he said.
Kerry also commended the girls for their courage to make their choices in science and technology with mathematics.
He said: “I salute your courage and your vision for your commitment to education; we want to work with you”.
The U.S. scribe, however, challenged the girls to work harder so as to benefit from the opportunities provided for them to have better education.
He explained that it was only hard work that could make them better individuals.
He added that “USAID has committed hundred millions of dollars to these efforts to be able to help girls to make their own choices and be educated. However, it won’t happen overnight, it involves hard work and commitment to make it happen”.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Tuesday insisted that it would go ahead with the re-screening of the 2,000 dismissed immigration recruits, in spite of their continued protest.
The Service spokesperson, Ekpedeme King, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
NAN reports that the recruits had intensified protests in Abuja following moves by the NIS to re-screen them before giving them any employment.
King said that screening of the dismissed “applicants” whose names were earlier published in newspapers would take place as scheduled at the NIS Headquarters, Abuja, from August 29 to September 4.
He explained that the proposed background checks on the “applicants” which included security clearance, drug test, certificate verification and age on rank were mandatory before any employment into the NIS.
“The background checks are a normal practice globally when recruiting personnel into military and paramilitary agencies. Let me say that failure to submit oneself for screening would be regarded as withdrawal of interest in the recruitment exercise,” he said.
He said that the exercise was not a fresh recruitment and urged members of the public not to forward any employment application to the NIS.
NAN reports that the 2,000 dismissed recruits had been protesting at the National Assembly and the Ministry of Interior since 2015 for their reinstatement.
Their protest, however, took a different dimension on Monday when they joined members of the Bring Back our Girls (BBOG) movement to march to the presidential villa to demand their reinstatement.
NAN reports that they were employed by a Presidential Committee set up by former President, Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 following the tragedy that marred the March 2014 recruitment exercise.
Many candidates died and others sustained injuries during the recruitment exercise.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday, denied media reports that he and few others brought President Muhammadu Buhari to power.
Obasanjo was speaking in Jalingo when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Darius Ishaku of the state.
He said such reports were baseless, untrue and calculated attempts to smear him.
Obasanjo said President Buhari was overwhelmingly voted by many Nigerians.
“No single individual or group can claim that glory,” he said.
The former president also said that the Mambila Plateau in Taraba had the potential of becoming the hub of tea production in Africa.
He expressed determination to promote the tea production potential of the state using his connections and experience.
“The Taraba tea factory is a symbol of national greatness. The tea potential of this state can attract global demand and earn the nation foreign exchange,” he said.
Obasanjo noted that beside tea, the state also had potentials in cattle rearing, poultry, power generation, among others.
“The livestock potential of this state surpasses any kind of cattle rearing known in this country. Likewise in poultry which of course is in commercial quantity.
The Mambilla Hydro-Power Project, if completed, has the capacity to generate more than half of our power demand in this country. Therefore, Taraba is indeed a blessing to this country,” Obasanjo said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there are over 50,000 hectares of land suitable for tea production on the Mambilla Plateau.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Tuesday barred nine commercial banks from all foreign exchange transactions.
According to THISDAY, this was because they failed to return a total of $2.334 billion of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)/Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Company dollar deposits to the federal government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA) domiciled with the central bank, as directed by the presidency in 2015.
The report added that the affected banks are the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc – $530 million, First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) Ltd. – $469 million, Diamond Bank Plc – $287 million, Sterling Bank Plc – $269 million, Skye Bank Plc -$221 million, Fidelity Bank Plc – $209 million, Keystone Bank Ltd. – $139 million, First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Ltd. – $125 million, and Heritage Bank Limited – $85.5 million.
The banks’ suspension would remain in force until they remit all the funds to the TSA,
The National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians of the prevalence of fake alcoholic drinks, especially dry gin in the nation’s markets.
Dr. Abubakar Jimoh, its Director, Special Duties, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Tuesday that the agency had continued to advise consumers of alcoholic beverages to be alert and be wary of fake and unregistered drinks.
“Drinking alcohol is bad enough and people are always advised to take it in moderation; so, the danger associated with taking a fake drink can only be imagined,” he said.
Jimoh said that the agency had taken its campaign against fake drinks to Plateau, Gombe, Benue, Bauchi and many other states in north, and had engaged traditional and religious leaders to lead the efforts.
He particularly decried the rampant consumption of drinks like “Ogogoro” (dry gin) and “Goskolo” by youths, and urged stakeholders to join in the fight “especially since the youths are the group most affected”.
“We have found that the youths rely on such drinks to gather enough courage to commit all manners of atrocities like armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, killing and the rest.
We have, therefore, continued to intensify our campaigns and that has resulted into some states coming up with bylaws that banned some alcoholic beverages.
We have also raided production and drinking points of some of these dangerous drinks, especially in Edo and Delta States, because the drinks have damaged many livers, kidneys and other vital organs of the body.
They have also led to the gradual decline in the health status of many youths and totally destroyed their capacity to contribute to societal development,” he said.
Jimoh said that the drinks issue required special attention, especially now that government was asking Nigerians to go back to the farm in efforts to diversify the economy.
“Farming requires a lot of energy – which is the asset of youths. The drinks destroy that energy, hence the need to rid society of them,” he said.
The NAFDAC official explained that it was usually difficult to distinguish between the fake and genuine drinks because “many producers usually gather empty bottles with NAFDAC-approved badges and pour the fake contents into them”. “Our advice is that the consumers must always be on the watch-out,” he said.
He called for more proactive steps from governors to protect members of the public, and alleged that most governors had always paid lip service to the campaign against fake drugs and drinks.
Jimoh expressed satisfaction over the agency’s achievements in its war against counterfeit drinks and drugs.
“The prevalence rate used to be 16.7%, now we have battled it down to 3.4% and shall never relent in the war,” he added.
About 241 Nigerians on Tuesday voluntarily returned from Libya. They arrived at the cargo terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, and were received by the National Emergency Management Agency on behalf of the Federal Government.
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) facilitated their returns in collaboration with the Nigerian Embassy in Libya. A Libyan airline with Reg 5A-LAR that brought the returnees touched down at about 4PM to the waiting arms of the NEMA officials, IOM and other relevant stakeholders.
On arrival, they were screened by officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) before being handed over to NEMA that provided them with food and facilitated their movements to their respective locations.
The Head of Lagos office of the IOM Dr. Nahashon Thuo said the returnees opted to come back voluntarily and that they were not deportees.
Director Relief and Rehabilitation of NEMA Aliyu Baffale Sambo who represented the Director-General Muhammad Sani Sidi in receiving the returnees gave the breakdown that they were 67 females (including 6 that are under 18 years) and 174 males (including 3 under 18 years).
He said 3 of them were children less than five years. He further explained that there were about 6 medical cases. After the initial 3 persons taken to the hospital on the arrival, 2 more cases were discovered and also taken later to the health facilities.
Among the stakeholders that joined NEMA in receiving the returnees were officials of the Nigerian Airforce, Nigerian Police Force, Federal Ministry of Health (Port health services), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and Other related Matters (NAPTIP), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Department of State Services (DSS) and Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), among others.
President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the news of the 8 persons killed in Talata-Mafara community in Zamfara following violence that erupted over alleged blasphemy by a student of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata-Mafara.
The student was alleged to have made a blasphemous statement against Islam and Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and was consequently attacked by a mob.
The boy was said to have been beaten to pulp by the mob, and the man, whose name was simply given as Tajudeen, took him in his car and rushed to a hospital.
Enraged by the act of the man who rescued the student, an eyewitness told NAN that the mob moved to his (Tajudeen’s) house, set it on fire and killed eight persons.
Reacting to the news on his Twitter handle, President Buhari said ‘ I received news of the mob killings in Zamfara with great dismay. It is barbaric & unacceptable. I assure that the law will take its course. My prayers are with the families of the victims. Under my watch we will work to ensure that there is no place for violence in the name of religion, ethnicity, or in any guise whatsoever.

The Ota Magistrate Court 2, Ogun State has remanded Joachim Iroko (aka Joe Chinakwe), the man who named his dog “Buhari”.
PUNCH reports that Joe was charged to court by the police with “conduct likely to cause breach of the peace”.
Oyeyemi said the rearrest was to prevent the state from being plunged into crisis, adding that the complainant and his sympathisers had threatened to kill the suspect.
The charge, by the Prosecutor, Inspector Itaita Ebibomini, read:
That you, Joachim Iroko, aka Joe, and others still at large, on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at about 5.30pm at the Ketere area, Sango, in the Ota Magisterial District did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace, by writing a name, Buhari, on a dog and parading same in the Hausa section of Ketere Market, Sango, thereby, committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 249 (d) of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, Nigeria, 2016.
Joe pleaded not guilty to the charge. His counsel, U. Michael, however, pleaded that the accused should be granted bail.
The Chief Magistrate, B. J. Ojikutu, admitted Iroko to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum, adding that the sureties must be regular taxpayers in the state.
“They must attach four passport photographs each to the bail bond, depose to affidavits of being gainfully employed, and reside in the court’s jurisdiction,” he added.
The case was then adjourned to September 19, 2016.
As at the time of filing the report, Joe’s family members were yet to perfect the bail for his release.
He was subsequently taken to the Ibara Prison.
Joe was first arrested on Saturday, August 13 after one of his neighbours (reported to be from Niger Republic) neighbour lodged a complaint at the Sango Police State that Chinakwe named the dog after his (neighbour’s) father, Alhaji Buhari. .
He was then released, and rearrested again by the police.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that Joe was picked up again based on the Force’s belief that the suspect’s action was capable of provoking an ethno-religious crisis.
Joe, speaking after his first release had said that he named his dog “Buhari” because President Buhari is his hero.

The Federal Government has said that it has begun the process of compiling names of legislators over unexecuted constituency projects earmarked for them in the 2014 and 2015 budgets.
The total amount to be probed is N200bn, that is, N100bn each for 2014 and 2015.
According to PUNCH, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), made this known on Sunday.
He added that the compilation was being done by the police, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).
“The money for constituency projects had been taken, but certain allegations prevailed that some constituency projects were not executed after the money had been paid 100 per cent.
If money is appropriated in the budget, paid and the projects the funds were meant for were not executed, it is only natural to take steps to find out what happened. If neither the money nor the project can be produced, then you must take steps in accordance with the law.
There are cases that are specific; we are compiling them. I will not want to pre-empt investigation, we have to allow investigation to be concluded before we go public,” he said.
Malami said that the names of legislators and the constituency projects that were not executed would be made public after investigation, adding that he will not give details now “in order not to preempt investigation”.
He said his office and the law enforcement agencies had received complaints of how payments were made for constituency projects that were never executed.
PUNCH’s report also added that the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazak Namdas, said that constituency projects are only identified and inserted into the Budget by lawmakers, but are carried out by MDAs.
“Members do not execute constituency projects, and they don’t receive money for the projects.
For example, a health centre will naturally be done by the Ministry of Health or any agency so designated by the executive to handle the project. It is not the member who implements the project or appoints the contractors,” Namdas said.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reacted to a tweet by former goalkeeper, Peterside Idah suggesting that the Federation wanted to ‘hijack’ the donation to the team by a Japanese plastic surgeon, Dr. Katsuya Takasu.
Takasu had before the game announced that he was going to watch the 3rd place game between Nigeria and Honduras on Saturday, and present the $390,000 to the team ($200,000 in Coach Samson Siasia‘s name and $190,000 in Captain Mikel Obi‘s name).
Idah had tweeted before the game that the NFF wanted to hijack the money.
Reacting to the development, NFF President, Amaju Pinnick said:
His message was a lie, an atrocious false alarm before an important match. I had exchanged correspondence with the Honourable Minister on the issue of the donation and we agreed that there was need for caution. The Minister said to me that he read the donation in the papers and had expressed serious concern. I also received a mail from the NFF Integrity Officer who expressed very serious concern with this kind of donation.
I got in touch with the Ambassador of Nigeria to Brazil and the Honourable Minister to say that whatever had to be done should be done after the Bronze Medal Match, to avoid any distractions. The NFF may be having financial challenges, but I assure you nobody in the Federation is interested in that money.
If we get the Government’s go-ahead to collect the money, no official of the NFF will be involved even in the collection. The money will be received directly by the team.
Pinnick added that the status of Nigeria as a sovereign nation, and the integrity of Nigeria football, is bigger than such financial gains.
“If we had rushed to collect that kind of money and hand over to the players, the same people who are condemning the NFF now would have said worse things. There are matters in the football world today that FIFA and the various confederations frown at. We are very much aware of that,” he said.
Dr. Takasu has however, handed the cheque to Siasia and Mikel Obi

The Rio Olympics ended on Sunday with a spectacular carnival-inspired closing ceremony, ushering in the official handover to 2020 hosts Tokyo.
The colourful ceremony, lasting almost three hours, celebrated Brazil’s arts and was held in a wet Maracana Stadium.
Among the highlights were Tokyo’s impressive showcase and a vibrant carnival parade.
“These were a marvellous Olympics, in a marvellous city,” Thomas Bach, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, said.
“Over the last 16 days a united Brazil inspired the world, in difficult times for all of us, with its irresistible joy for life,” he added.
Bach officially closed the Games of the 31st Olympiad after 16 days of competition, featuring 11,303 athletes from 206 nations and a refugee team.
One of the biggest cheers of the night came when Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe appeared dressed as computer game character Super Mario. He rose out of a huge green pipe in the stadium.
The ceremony, watched by billions around the world, featured the parade of athletes and a dramatic extinguishing of the Olympic flame.
The closing ceremony featured the symbolic handover of the Olympic flag.
Rio mayor Eduardo Paes returned it to IOC president Bach, before it was passed to Tokyo governor Yuriko Koike.
That was followed by an impressive 12-minute showcase of Tokyo, which included Prime Minister Abe’s star turn.
The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has closed down two wells in the Egbeda and Iyana Odo areas, LASU-Igando Road, containing petrol, PUNCH reports.
One of the wells was discovered at a swampy area on Diamond Estate, Egbeda, while the other was on the premises of Winners Chapel International at the Iyana Odo bus stop.
The wells were impounded on Thursday during an operation led by the state commandant of the corps, Tajudeen Balogun.
According to the president of Diamond Residents’ Association, Dapo Ojikiru, the residents have contacted the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on several occasions but nothing has been done.
“We have contacted the NNPC on several occasions. When we did not get any response, we dug some holes and evacuated the fuel. We decided to inform the NSCDC when the spillage continued. Our water has been polluted,” he said.
A pastor at the church also decried the pollution of water in the ground. He said he had made several attempts to get the attention of the authorities to the well since he arrived there about a year ago.
“We want the well to be levelled to the ground. We don’t have potable water in the church. The fuel has contaminated our borehole water. We have reported to the NNPC but nothing was done,” he added.
According to the NSCDC boss:
The command was on operations at Diamond Estate following an official report by its residents of oil spillage. The corps discovered a pool of petroleum motor spirit behind the estate wall.
We also discovered a well filled with PMS on the premises of Winners Chapel at Iyana Odo. The pastor of the church said he had earlier reported to the NNPC. We will do everything within our power to correct this anomaly by working with the necessary agencies to avoid any possible hazardous occurrence.
This comes less than 2 weeks after the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos Police command discovered wells filled with diesel in more than 10 houses in the Ilasamaja area of the state.
“At the last count there, we have seen about 12 houses that had wells dug behind the house and the only thing that they scoop out of the wells is diesel but not water.
It is believed that almost all the houses within that vicinity had this same thing.
We have arrested some of the landlords and we have also asked the tenants whether they have the knowledge that they were compromising their lives and property?” Fatai Owoseni, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos had said.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has condemned in strong terms the Imo Government’s three-day work, two-day farming for workers recently introduced by Governor Rochas Okorocha.
NLC President Ayuba Wabba gave this indication while fielding questions at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum on Sunday in Abuja.
Wabba said that the policy which implied forcefully sending workers to farm was against the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention and also against the rules and procedures in service.
“First, we have condemned in very strong terms what the Imo State governor tries to do by forcefully sending workers to the farm.
Don’t forget that the public service rule is very clear about what trade a worker can actually do to join to his normal routine services.
It provided that on your own volition, you can join farming as part of your normal routine activities and that is allowed by law.
But to criminally now go to the State House of Assembly to pass a law overnight without public hearing, without consultation is against the ILO convention; against our rules and procedure in service.
To say that you want to force workers compulsorily to go into farming two days a week is the height of not even understanding how governance and how public service is run.
I am sure that is condemnable,” he said.
According to him, Okorocha’s policy is quite different from what other states are doing.
He explained that while other states were encouraging workers to embrace farming voluntarily, the Imo government’s policy on the other hand was compulsory.
He, however, explained that the ILO Convention and the International treaty made it clear that working hours should not be more than eight hours a day and 40 hours per week.
Wabba further noted that Nigeria is a signatory to the treaty prohibiting forced labour.
“What the governor is doing is forced labour; we are not slaves; even under slavery, you cannot force a worker to work against his volition. Employment is a contract between the employer and the employee and therefore, they are rules of engagement; even what you earn is through a collective bargaining process; it cannot be imposed or forced on you,” he added.
Therefore, Wabba said that the NLC directive, the law had been made ineffective as workers had ignored it and continued with their work normally.
“How can you for instance ask a teacher not to go to school to teach pupils for two days a week or a health practitioner; disease doesn’t give notice.
You don’t give notice before you fall sick; so at the time when you are going to farm an epidemic can actually come up; how you can address all of this?
Or you want to put two standards in place; you ask one category of workers to come to work three days a week and another category to go to farm.
That is not done; there are better ways to do that; he can encourage farmers; he can allocate lands give them fertiliser, give them incentives.
You can put laws in place and encourage workers to go into farming but not through a very cruel process of working against the law and forcing them to go to farm which is against our law; against our convention,” he said.
The NLC president stressed that the international labour law, which Nigeria had ratified was superior to the one passed by the Imo State Assembly.
“We have a superior law which Nigeria had ratified, which is also an international law that prohibits forced labour; what he is trying to do by that law, is forced labour”.
He said that the NLC had already written officially to the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, which statutorily has the responsibility to enforce the labour laws of the issue and would also forward it to the ILO.
Former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, has called for a part time legislature in order to cut the cost of governance in the country.
Babangida made this call on Tuesday while addressing newsmen at an event to mark his 75th birthday in Minna.
He said although, a proposal by his regime to make the National Assembly part time in 1989 never came to fruition, he still strongly believed in it.
“In 1989, we proposed that the National Assembly should be made part time and I still believe if I have the opportunity, I will make it part time. I strongly believe in it and it is all in the effort to reduce the high cost of governance and I know I may be in trouble for suggesting part time legislature,” he said
On how he felt on hearing the rumour of his death in the media, the former military leader said that he was not surprised as it was not new.
“The first thing that came to my mind was that it is not new; they did it to Nnamdi Azikiwe, they did it to Shehu Shagari and other elder statesmen, so it’s not a surprise. As a Muslim, whether I like it or not I must die someday and so they are just stating the obvious but nobody knows the time or place that It will happen,” he added.
Babangida also stated that he was not the evil most people thought he had been, explaining that by virtue of his profession, he was bound to be misconstrued.
“I am not the evil quite a lot of you think that I am and I can understand that by virtue of the job I was doing, I was bound to be misunderstood. But I consider it all as an opinion and it is one of those things you have to live with but as long as I am not what you thought I was, I feel very much satisfied,” he added.

Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has reiterated that its current economic policies were in the right direction to rescue the dwindling economic situation in the country. Governor of CBN, Mr Godwin Emefiele, who faulted critics of the apex bank’s policies, said the bank was operating the best policies needed to address the present economic crisis in Nigeria. Governor of Kaduna Ahmed El-Rufai, had last week criticized the CBN over the bad state of Nigeria’s fiscal regime, saying the bank’s 14 per cent monetary policy rate had led to unprecedented job losses in the country, especially with the bank’s Monetary Policy Rate, MPR, increased from 12 per cent to 14.The CBN boss, who stated this at Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, The Everlasting Arms Parish, Garki, Teens’ Career Conference, in Abuja, said the bank’s policies at present remained the best option to Nigeria’s ailing economy.
Emefiele, who was represented by CBN Deputy Governor, Economic Policy, Dr Sarah Alade, said: “At this moment, what we are doing is what is best for the economy. The concern even in this hall has been the slide in the naira. And I have told you, I did answer the question by saying that we also need to ensure that we diversify the economy, so we can earn more dollar, we can have more export. We are also supporting the efforts of the government. Once we are able to do this, we would then be able to earn the interest rate that people want. At this particular time, to be able to get out of the situation we are in, we need to have the decisions we have taken at the right time. The Monetary Policy Committee considers all these factors before we take decisions and we will do what is right for the economy. Whatever policies we need to take to ensure that the economy comes out stronger, we’ll do it and at the right time.” The CBN boss assured Nigerian youths that the bank took their growth and development seriously. “One thing that keeps me awake at night is how to create an enabling environment for our youths to grow,” Emefiele said. He advised them to stay focused on their dreams for greatness, stressing that hard work, focus and commitment remained the key to success.
As part of the ongoing demolition of illegal structures across the state, operatives of the Lagos State Task Force on Environment and Special Offences Unit, weekend, demolished over 360 illegal structures built on the Right of Way, Row, of high tension cables at Igbara Market, Jakande, along Lekki-Epe Expressroad.
It will be recalled that, last Tuesday, the task force demolished over 350 illegal structures built on the Row of high tension cables at Oba Wahab Ayinde Balogun Modern Market, Isheri-Olofin, in Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Alimosho Local Government. The demolished structures at Lekki include 235 illegal shops and 125 containers. Chairman of the state task force, Superintendent of Police Olayinka Egbeyemi, led the team, in conjunction with officials of the state Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Lagos State Building Control Agency.
Egbeyemi called on market leaders (Iya Oloja and Baba Oloja) to take it upon themselves in enforcing government directives on staying away from Row of high tension cables across the state. Egbeyemi disclosed further that the exercise embarked upon by the government should not be seen as punitive, but as an effort by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode towards saving lives and properties of members of the public. He urged market leaders at all local governments and LCDAs to support government by educating traders on the imminent danger of trading under high tension cables.
Egbeyemi said the demolition was carried out after the expiration of a seven-day notice served on shops owners and all traders. While disclosing that the team will soon move to other identified locations. He stressed that no responsible and responsive government would tolerate any trading activities under such dangerous condition.
The Chairman of the Spare Parts Traders Association at the market, Mr. Ugo Onuoha, said they have been operating at the market for more than 20 years families namely Lawal, Balogun and Badanu families. Onuoha claimed that the families collect N3,000 to N5,000 from those selling inside a container shop, while others who trade inside brick shops pays N10,000 to N20,000 monthly.
He and his Vice, Mr. Lazarous Obina, however, pleaded with the government to construct low medium market for traders around the area as those constructed by private developers were beyond their reach. A representative of Lawal family, Mr. Lateef Lawal, who spoke on behalf of his family, said since the government served the notice on the market, the Igbara communities have started looking for a possible relocation of traders to a new land around the area. Lawal commended the state government for serving notices ahead of the demolition exercise. He said the notice had enabled all traders to move their wares and properties from individual container and shop before the demolition.
The Naira, Monday, depreciated against the dollar at the parallel market, just as crude oil price hit five-week high, gaining about 10 per cent in a three-day rally to close at $48.05 as speculations intensified over potential producer action to support prices amid a crude glut. Data from market intelligence firm, Genscape, estimating a draw of more than 350,000 barrels at the Cushing, Oklahoma delivery point for U.S. crude futures, last week, added to the bullish sentiment. Meanwhile, the naira lost N3 to exchange at N393, from N390 posted on Friday; while it traded at N505 and N435 against the Pound Sterling and the Euro respectively. At the Bureau De Change (BDC) segment of the market, the naira closed at N385, N505 and N420 against the dollar, Pound Sterling and the Euro, respectively.
The naira, however appreciated at the official interbank market to close at N317.34, from N320.25 posted on Friday. Traders at the market said that the demand for dollars was still on the high side. The market was eagerly awaiting the sale of foreign exchange by banks to BDCs during the week. Oil extends rally to five-week highs on talk of producer action Brent crude rose $1.08, or 2.3 percent, to $48.05 a barrel after rising to $48.10 earlier, its highest since July 7. Brent has gained about 10 percent cumulatively in the past three sessions, its most in such a stretch since May. Since the start of August, it is up 12 percent. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude gained $1.06, or 2.4 percent, to $45.55, after rallying earlier to $45.61, a peak since July 21. WTI has gained nearly 10 percent on the month.
Members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries are to meet on the sidelines of the International Energy Forum, which groups producers and consumers, in Algeria from September 26-28. Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak bolstered hopes yesterday that oil producing nations could take action to stabilize prices, telling a Saudi newspaper that his country was consulting with Saudi Arabia and other producers to achieve market stability. “With Russia joining the chorus, an array of bullish oil ETFs saw a sizeable influx of capital that lifted crude values by more than $5 a barrel off recent lows,” said Jim Ritterbusch of Chicago-based oil markets consultancy Ritterbusch & Associates. “While we see very little possibility of an actualization of curtailed OPEC output, there will likely be enough chatter during the next five to six weeks to deter selling in allowing WTI to gravitate at around the $45 area, at least through the second half of this month,” he added. But other analysts were sceptical that the rally would continue. “In our view a renewed price correction cannot be ruled out if market participants start focusing on the supply side again, for the latest drilling activity figures in the U.S. cast doubts that the oversupply is really being eroded,” Commerzbank analyst Carsten Fritsch said in a note. There are also doubts that Saudi Arabia and other major OPEC members such as Iran will put aside a market share battle in order to prop up prices. On the demand side, the world’s three biggest economies – the United States, China and Japan – all published downbeat economic data between Friday and Monday that could signal an erosion soon in oil demand.
54 year old Very Reverend Father Peter Zuni of the Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, Kakuri parish, Kaduna State, was recently disrobed and sacked by the Archbishop of the Kaduna Archdiocese, Bishop Ndagoso Manoso after his secret wife stormed the church to disclose her secret relationship with the Catholic priest.
The news came as a shock to the church because according to the doctrine of the Catholic Church, only unmarried men are ordained into the priesthood as they are obligated to swear to an oath of celibacy and observe perfect and perpetual service for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. This, it is believed, would enable the priests to easily remain close to Christ with an undivided heart, and dedicate themselves more freely to the service of God and the congregation.
“I find it difficult myself to believe what people are saying about me. I will not comment on it now. I will follow due process to invite you for an interview, but I am afraid, the newspaper of the archdiocese, The Cross News, may carry this story before you (Sunday Sun)”.
The International Youth Day (IYD) is an awareness day designated by the United Nations to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth.
The theme of the 2016 International Youth Day is “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production”.
President Muhammadu Buhari, in his letter to the Nigerian Youth said that the government it committed to improving the quality of life of the youths and create opportunities for them to achieve their goals.
Dear Nigerian Youths,
Today is International Youth Day.
I am delighted to commemorate this occasion, the second such celebration since I took office.
The roles that young Nigerians played in the historic election that brought our government to power will never be forgotten. The government belongs to you.
I would like to use this opportunity to assure you of our commitment to improve the quality of your lives and to create opportunities for you to achieve your dreams and ambitions.
We are mindful of the fact that Nigeria has one of the youngest populations in the world. Those young people are immensely energetic and talented, consistently blazing the trail in the arts, sports, business and technology. We are proud of what you have done and what you are able to do.
We have launched a number of initiatives targeted at expanding the economic opportunities available to young Nigerians. N-Power, our job creation scheme for which applications are on-going, will employ 500,000 of you in agriculture, education, healthcare, and technology.
The Aso Villa Demo Day will soon bring 30 of the most innovative young Nigerians to the State House to showcase their talent in prowling technology -based solutions to some of our most challenging problems.
The Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), part of our 500 billion Naira Social Investment Programme, will provide soft loans to thousands of young entrepreneurs across the country.
These are just some of the many initiatives we have designed and are implementing for you.
You are the strength and future of our country. Please be assured that this administration will create an enabling environment for you to realize your potentials.
This year’s Day is about achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It focuses on the leading role of young people in ensuring poverty eradication and achieving sustainable development through sustainable consumption and production.
The United Nations General Assembly on December 17 1999, in its resolution 54/120, endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth (Lisbon, 8-12 August 1998) that August 12th be declared International Youth Day.
The first IYD was observed on August 12, 2000.
After the Dream Team VI’s game against Colombia at the #RioOlympics2016, the team it was reported had threatened to boycott the finals over unpaid allowances and poor treatment.
In an interview, the team’s coach Samson Siasia said that he will support the players if they eventually decide to boycott the quarterfinal game against Denmark Saturday night.
“We have only been paid allowances for 11 days. There is no match bonus. What about all the months we have been training in Nigeria and Atlanta? That’s not fair.
We have been disrespected from all angles – by the the sports ministry, the Nigeria Football Federation. Is that how you will treat your own children? We are not street kids. I have not received my salary for the past five months.
Everything is upside down and the boys don’t want to play anymore. Whatever they want to do, I’m with them. They are right for fighting for their rights.
I cannot do more than what I have done to get this team up to this level. I have done my best and now I am tired,” Siasia said.
Following the development, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has appealed to the team not to boycott the game.
He said this in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, in Abuja on Friday.
According to him, the House will ensure that they are paid all their entitlements.
The speaker urged the team to take patriotism as a fulcrum of their campaign, adding that he would do everything within his powers to intervene in the matter.
He said the team with the likes of Mikel Obi, Yakubu Umar, Oghenekaro Etebor and William Troost-Ekong had a very bright chance of repeating the feat of the Atlanta ’96.
“We will do all we can to ensure that all entitlements due to the team are paid as we are already talking to relevant government agencies,” he said.
He further said that football being the major unifying factor in the country should be maximised by all for Nigeria’s continued unity.
“We will stop at nothing to ensure that we get the team to excel in Brazil and for Nigeria to recreate the watershed of Atlanta 96,” Dogara added.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Tuesday directed Bureau De Change (BDCs) operators not to sell foreign exchange above two per cent margin of the buying rate.
This is contained in a statement in Lagos signed by W.D Gotring, the Acting Director, Trade and Exchange Department of CBN.
The statement also directed authorised dealers not to sell foreign exchange to any BDC more than a maximum of 30, 000 dollars per week.
According to the statement, a BDC shall nominate its preferred dealer or a bank to procure the said amount from only that bank in a week.
It also said that the selling rate by the dealer to BDCs should be the buying rate from International Money Transfer Operators (IMTO) plus a margin not exceeding 1.5 per cent.
“Foreign exchange cash purchased by BDCs shall be sold to foreign exchange end-users at a rate not exceeding two per cent margin above the buying rate. The two per cent margin above shall be applicable to all funds to be retailed by the BDCs regardless of sources of funds,” CBN said.
The statement mandated BDCs to render weekly report of purchases from authorised to its trade and exchange department.
It said that funds purchased by BDCs should be eligible for Business Travel Allowance, Personal Travel Allowance, Oversees School Fees and Oversees Medical Fees.
The statement warned that any BDC which violated the above directives would be punished accordingly.
Sanusi Mohammed, Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Zamafara, on Wednesday said more than 801 persons were displaced by flood in Maru town, Zamfara.
In a telephone interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Muhammad said the affected persons included 180 women and 621 children.
He said 52 houses and farmlands were also destroyed during the disaster which occurred on July 29.
The executive secretary also said that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and its counterpart in the state had visited the town.
“NEMA and SEMA have visited the affected town and conducted a joint assessment of the disaster. We will forward such assessment to our respective agencies for immediate assistance,” he said.
Muhammad called on residents of the state to avoid blocking drainages or constructing structures on water ways to avoid similar disasters.
The Nigeria Metrological Agency had recently warned people along major rivers in parts of the country to vacate their houses to prevent loss of lives and property due to anticipated flooding the rivers.
Similarly, NEMA had alerted Nigerians of possible flood in some of the states in the north and urged people and relevant authorities to prepare for emergency.

Nigeria’s Dream Team VI still topped Group B of the Rio 2016 Olympics men’s football event in Sao Paulo in spite of a 2-0 loss to Colombia on Wednesday.
Nigeria thus advanced to Saturday’s quarter-finals after six points from three matches, having scored six goals and conceded six, with Colombia picking the runners-up spot with five points.
A first-half strike from captain Teofilo Gutierrez and a second-half penalty kick from Dorlan Pabon ensured the South Americans joined their West African opponents in the quarter-finals.
Needing a win to secure their place in the last eight, it was Colombia who took an early lead through Gutierrez.
Pabon’s fine forward ball from the left flank picked out the unmarked Sporting Lisbon striker at the top of the Nigeria penalty box.
Gutierrez then applied a neat volleyed finish to beat goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi and give Colombia a fourth minute advantage.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the early goal gave Colombia the confidence to attack Nigeria’s backline and create more quality chances.
In the 19th minute, Akpeyi denied Harold Preciado’s close-range header before Pabon caused another scare for Nigeria after getting in behind the defence before shooting wide.
The Group B winners then created chances of their own before the break, with the best of Nigeria’s opportunities coming in the 28th minute.
This was when Oghenekaro Etebo put Sadiq Umar’s low cross wide of the far post in the Colombia penalty box.
Etebo also tested Cristian Bonilla with a well-hit free-kick that was blocked away by the legs of the Colombia goalkeeper.
Colombia’s determination to reach the knockout stages was reflected in their willingness to extend their lead after half-time.
Just after the hour mark, they were rewarded with a penalty kick after Akpeyi took down Preciado in the Nigeria penalty box.
Pabon stepped up to drive the spot kick home and double Colombia’s advantage.
Colombia could have had a third goal in the 73rd minute but Preciado was unable to find the target from close range after controlling Gutierrez’s pinpoint cross from the left.
NAN reports that Colombia will play their quarter-final clash in Sao Paulo on Saturday, while Nigeria travels to Salvador for their last eight encounter.
The quarterfinal pairings are:
Portugal vs Germany in Brasilia at the Estadio Nacional at 1PM
Nigeria vs Denmark in Salvador at the Arena Fonte Nova at 4PM
Korea Republic vs Honduras in Belo Horizonte at the Estadio Mineirao at 7PM
Brazil vs Colombia in Sao Paulo at the Arena Corinthians at 10PM

Nigeria has been knocked out of her position as the largest economy in Africa in Dollar terms by South Africa. This comes two years after Nigeria took the position as the biggest economy in the African continent from South Africa.
Based on gross domestic product at the end of 2015 published by the International Monetary Fund, the size of South Africa’s economy is $301 billion at the rand’s current exchange rate, while Nigeria’s GDP is $296 billion.
This was attributed to the appreciation of the Rand, South Africa’s currency, and the devaluation of the Nigerian Naira following the introduction of a flexible foreign exchange regime.
The Rand gained more than 16% against the dollar since the start of 2016, and Nigeria’s Naira lost more than a third of its value after the central bank removed a currency peg in June.
According to Bloomberg:
Both nations face the risk of a recession after contracting in the first quarter of the year. The Nigerian economy shrank by 0.4 percent in the three months through March from a year earlier amid low oil prices and output and shortage of foreign currency. That curbed imports, including fuel. In South Africa, GDP contracted by 0.2 percent from a year earlier as farming and mining output declined.
‘More than the growth outlook, in the short term the ranking of these economies is likely to be determined by exchange rate movements,’ Alan Cameron, an economist at Exotix Partners LLP, said in e-mailed responses to questions on August 2. Although Nigeria is unlikely to be unseated as Africa’s largest economy in the long run, “the momentum that took it there in the first place is now long gone,” Alan added.

Agbaje also admitted that the PDP had made mistakes in the past but it would soon be reformed.
The former governorship candidate made the comments while speaking to journalists in Abuja after indicating his interest to become PDP chairman.
‘The PDP gave way so that Nigerians can test what other parties have in stock. But it is regrettable that party has failed to provide the change promised. Every youth in Nigeria will like to see PDP reformed, and the reformation has started,’ Agbaje said according to Vanguard.
“We accept that mistakes were made in the past in the PDP, especially with our internal democracy. So we have to go back to the position of the founding fathers of our party on internal democracy.
“And that means that we have go back to our constitution. That is very important. We have to be more all-inclusive as we have been thus far. It is about bringing people nearer rather than sending them far away from the party. Everybody must feel to be part of this party.
“What I bring to the table is that I am not a member of any faction or any tendencies. I am in a position to talk to everybody, to ensure that if you love the PDP, then it is time to come back to the zone.
“I will appeal to those who feel very strongly to join us because Nigeria cannot make the progress it deserves without a viable opposition and that PDP is going to provide that opposition as an alternative government and in a responsible manner,” he added.
The PDP is currently involved in a leadership crisis due to the refusal of former chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff to vacate the office.
Sheriff was officially removed on May 21, but insists that he remains the valid occupant of the office till 2018.

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Monday, said no fewer than 80,000 pilgrims were expected to be transported in the next five weeks for the 2016 Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this is contained in a statement issued by the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, FAAN, Yakubu Dati, in Lagos.
Dati said that this year hajj operation would be carried out in 17 airports across the country.
He said FAAN was providing security and safety oversight to all airports including state-owned airports participating in the exercise.
A Director, Ministry of Transport, Adamu Wakil was quoted as saying that the ministry would collaborate with aviation agencies to ensure that safety and security in the airports.
Wakil, who is also the Chairman, Aviation Monitoring Committee, said that his team would ensure seamless passenger transportation during the period.
Dati said two directors from FAAN, Olufemi Ogunode and Capt. Henry Omeogu, had earlier led various technical teams to supervise preparations for the exercise.
NAN reports that the transportation of the pilgrims began on Monday when the first batch of 500 pilgrims left the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, for Saudi Arabia.
The exercise is expected to be concluded on Sept. 6.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday arrested Abubakar Sidiq Usman, a blogger, for offences bordering on cyber stalking.
According to the EFCC, Sidiq, an online publisher was picked up at his Kubwa, Abuja home in the early hours of Monday August 8, 2016 by its officials and is currently being questioned over the alleged offence which contravenes sections of the Cybercrime Act.
He has already been offered administrative bail and would be released to his elected sureties.
Reports say Sidiq’s arrest was as a result of a post on his blog, abusidiqu.com titled: “EFCC boss, Magu, commences total war with core EFCC staff”. The post was published on August 2, 2016.
Part of the post read:
Regular members of staff at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC are complaining that they are being bullied by the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.Magu, who returned a few seconded police men to their mother organisation has become panicky following series of revelations on his activities at the commission.According to a source, Magu was ‘panicking because his confirmation had been deferred and is beginning to suspect any and every one in the commission for his problem’.
Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri has set a new African record as the first African ever to make it to the quarterfinals of the men’s single table tennis event at the Olympics.
Quadri was at par with Nigeria’s Segun Toriola who has been in seven Olympic games, and made it to the fourth round of the 2008 Beijing Olympic championship.
Quadri beat Germany’s Boll Timo, 4-2 to advance to the quarterfinals of the game.
Quadri won the first three sets 12-10 12-10, 12-5 in 10 minutes, and lost the next two to Timo, who is ranked number 10 in Rio, 11-3, 11-5.
Quadri sealed his entry into the quarterfinals by winning the sixth set 11-9.
He will now face world number one, China’s Ma Long.
Congrats Quadri. Go for Gold!
Athlete Seye Ogunlewe was interviewed by BBC in Rio for the 2016 Olympics as he prepares for his race on the 13th of August. The Men’s 100m runner will be up against Jamaican gold medalist Olympian, Usain Bolt.
See what BBC had to say and listen to the interview.
Nigeria’s fastest man, Seye Ogunlewe, has been bracing for the men’s 100 metres at the Rio Olympics, later this week. His ultimate goal is –almost certainly– to defeat the big favourite Usain Bolt and he’s allegedly said that he will “shock the world”. The BBC’s Ben James asked him to elaborate on that, but our colleague began by asking him what its takes to confront and possibly pip a sprinting legend at the post.
Seye Ogunlewe on how he’s preparing for his race
It’s just general preparation like what we’ve been doing before. You train, eat, recover, get treatment, do a lot of psychological work, visualise the race [and] just enjoy the moment – don’t think about it too much just relax. But also think about why you’re here and the country’s flag and how you want to do the best for yourself and the country.
On Usain Bolt’s love for fries and chicken nuggets/fried chicken
Different people have different things that work for them. Some people can eat fries, chicken and still do ok some people are really rigid and want to do everything to the T you know, some of us are like that for instance you can eat fries but not a ridiculous amount of fries.
On eating Brazilian foods
Theres a variety of stuff but I’m not really too keen on going to experiment at this stage in the competition because I don’t know what is what so I just stick to what I know, maybe rice, veg [vegetables] chicken and fish. Maybe after I finish running I’ll start experimenting on different Brazilian foods or Chinese foods.
On visualising the race and finishing ahead of Usain Bolt
You can do that as well, that’s good, it’s a different side to psychology. You have to visualise yourself doing the right things concecutively and its just a process, you need to stick to your own process. You can think about it but dont let it overwhelm you and make you loose focus on what you’re meant to be doing.
On saying to the Nigerian press he’s going to shock the world at Rio
Nigerians just always just change your headline. I saw the interview and I was like, I never said that why did you say that? [They said] they were like just trying to make the headline seem very… just trying to make it seem like you’re going to shock the world and I said okay cool.

A 47-year-old man, Emmanuel Magbatie, has been arrested for allegedly defiling an 18-month-old girl in the Owutu axis of Ikorodu, Lagos State, Vanguard reports.
The sad incident took place last Wednesday in Ikorodu, and the victim was rushed to Ikorodu General Hospital by her parents. The next day, they took her to Mirabel Centre at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for tests and professional assistance.
According to the Coordinator of Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT), Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, the victim’s mother said the suspect was her neighbour.
Vivour-Adeniyi said that the DSVRT has facilitated the transfer of the case from the Owutu Police Station to the gender desk of the state Police Command in Ikeja last Friday.
She added the suspect would be detained and charged to court after Mirabel Centre releases the result of the test.
Ekiti state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the trip of the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari to the United States of America is fake.
The state chapter of the party made this known in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Jackson Adebayo.
Read the full statement below:
It is only in the world of the APC that wife of the president of Nigeria, the most populous black nation in the world, would travel to the US ostensibly to debunk her involvement in a major scam and no television station will report her departure and arrival. The question is: ‘did she travel to US or Qatar?’
If the Presidency has not been bold enough to tell Nigerians that Aisha Buhari travelled to the USA on official visit, only a party of scammers like the APC will go on the rooftops to celebrate photoshopped pictures as evidence of visit to USA.
It is strange that wife of the President of Nigeria could travel to the USA and purportedly attended events there without international television stations like CNN, Al Jazeera, BBC, Sky News, etc and local stations like Channels TV, NTA, AIT and others reporting it. Or are they still ‘editing’ the video clips?
Even if Aisha Buhari actually travelled to the USA, does that erase the fact that in the judgment delivered by the United State District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division, USA, in criminal No 1: 07CR209, that indicted the US Congressman, Williams Jefferson, it was mentioned that $170,000 was transferred from account in Nigeria in the name of Aisha Buhari to an account in the name of The ANJ Group, LLC, identifying William Jefferson as beneficiary?
As a party of responsible and discerning minds, the PDP in Ekiti State would have elected to ignore the APC and allow the party the freedom to advertise it idiocy. This is more so that the matter is now a subject of litigation and the no one has denied the existence of the judgment that indicted Williams Jefferson and featured conspicuously at page 22, the name of Aisha Buhari as having transferred $170,000 from account in Nigeria to William Jefferson.
Most importantly, Nigerians have witnessed more heinous forgeries from the APC, one of them being pictorial claim that President Buhari (as APC presidential candidate then) had an interview with Kemi Fadojutimi on ‘All Eyes on Africa’ TV show in London, whereas the interview was held in Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
However, it is important to point out that from all evidences, the pictures circulated as arrival of President Buhari’s wife at Dulles International Airport, Washington DC could have been taken at the Doha International Airport, Qatar. Even on the official website of George Mason University and US Institute of Peace, USA where the president’s wife was said to have attended events, there is nothing to show that she attended any event in the two institutions.
We have seen pictures of Wife of the Senate President, Toyin Saraki with President Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle. We also saw pictures of Patience Jonathan with Michelle Obama when she visited the USA. Where are Aisha Buhari’s pictures with the First Lady of US and major government officials from the country? Or could she have arrived and departed from the USA like a spirit?
It is even more important that nothing official has been said about the purported trip. Not from the President’s spokespersons.
Yakasai, a former presidential adviser in the Second Republic stated this in his Kano residence when Raymond Dokpesi led members of his campaign team to seek his support for his PDP chairmanship bid at the forthcoming national convention in Port Harcourt.
“In my opinion, Nigerians will vote out APC in 2019 because they are complaining over the cost of living and the rate of poverty is on the increase”, Yakasai said.
I don’t see how APC will win if they don’t manipulate the process. How much was a dollar last year, how much is it now? What about the cost of bag of rice, basket of tomatoes and others. Farmers are complaining about fertilizers but it was not like this when PDP was in power,” he added
Similarly, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari over his poor handling of the economic situation in the country.
Mbaka, who claimed that Nigeria is being attacked ferociously, said Buhari should know that there is trouble in the land.
He also warned the President to note that if things continue like this, nobody will vote for him in 2019.
A popular pastor in South Africa, Alfred Ndlovu, took the temptation of competing with God too far when he decided to embark on a dry fasting that would break the 40 days and 40 nights Jesus Christ underwent, when he died after just 30 days into the programme.
Buzz South Africa reports that Ndlovu had boasted to his members that he would break the widely acclaimed record Christ held for the longest fasting and retired to a mountain to stay for the record breaking event but after just one month, he was found dead.
It was reported that Ndlovu left his family on June 17, 2016, to the prayer mountain to commence the dry run but on July 17, he was found dead by a hunter who then reported the find to the police who notified the deceased’s family and church members.
A church member, while narrating the death of Pastor Ndlovu, said:
“He was a very spiritual man. It’s unfortunate he had to die this way. After a month, we got the sad news of his death. Pastor was a healthy and religious old man who did not even look his age.”
Abubakar Shekau yesterday released an audio stating that he remains the leader of terrorist group, Boko Haram. He released the audio message hours after BBC released a report that ISIS in the latest issue of their magazine announced Abu Musab al-Barnawi as Boko Haram’s new leader. Shekau in the audio accused al-Barnawi of trying to stage a coup against him. In the 10 minutes audio, Shekau spoke in Haura and Arabic. Read the full transcript of what he said after the cut…
Below is excerpts of Shekau’s words in Hausa:
“All blessings be to Almighty Allah, and his His Prophet SAW. I am Imam Abubakar Shekau. This is the message to the world, to those who can understand Hausa and any other languages it can be translated for a clear understanding of the message, which is why we are sending this message to the world. The content of my message goes thus. We have heard news going round and attributed to people we had earlier pledge allegiance to. Even though we are not against them base on the message we heard in the world radio but we are still onour ideology. We know those we differ with, and I have written on this long ago. All we wrote have been documented with me, some eight pages and some nine pages stating their kind of ideology. Because I stated it clear that I am against the principle where someone will dwell in the society with the infidels without making public his opposition or anger against infidels publicly as it is stated in the Quran. Anyone doing such can’t be a real Muslim thick and thin. This is what our ideology proved. And that is where I am, to them, a Muslim can dwell in the society and do his marketing compromising core foundations. I want the world to know that we are still holding our ideology and tied with the Quran, we will not derail and will not revolt but will continue to remain in the cause of Allah. Following Prophet SAW is compulsory for us, and we will follow it to the end. This is our stand, and we are still in the cause of Jama’atu Ahl as-Sunnah li-Da’awati wal-Jihad and Allah will help us. May Allah strengthen us to remain in this cause. We are still members of Jama’atu Ahl as-Sunnah li-Da’awati wal-Jihad, no matter what they call us, we remain what we are. No matter what we have our basis in Quran. No matter what they call us, what we aspire is to justify our ideology in the Quran which is ultimate because we have not derailed. We are on and in the future, we will not accept any emissary except the one we can attest he is sincere and truthful for Allah and His cause. In the first place, we sat and I was deceived, they said I should write my ideology to be taken if there is a mistake they will point out and bring back. They now deceive me, and it is base on some authorities and today I found out that there is one who is following principles of infidel which they want me to follow, and Prophet has stopped us against such. We are still in the cause of Allah and will never depart in the struggle to establish an Islamic caliphate and standing by Islam. We will continue to work for the cause of Allah no going back. Anyone that caused this, no problem, if it’s possible may Allah show him the correct path and if it is not so may Allah protect us from his mischief

Imo state government has reduced the number of working days for the state’s civil servants from 5 to 3 days per week. This information is contained in a statement signed by Sam Onwuemeodo, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Rochas Okorocha.
The statement said that the new policy, tagged “Back to Land For Agriculture” is meant to enable the state engage and invest heavily in agriculture for self-sustenance since from all indications the state can no longer depend on monthly allocation for survival.
Okorocha disclosed the policy when traditional rulers from the state operating under the aegis of Royal fathers in Agriculture paid him courtesy call at the Government House Owerri on Monday.
According to Onwuemeodo, the governor directed that public servants in the state would now work from Mondays to Wednesdays, and use Thursdays and Fridays for agriculture (farming) while Saturdays can be used for ceremonies, adding that the directive takes effect from Monday August 1, 2016.
However, the governor exempted public servants on essential duties like the teachers, nurses, doctors and people involved in Internally Generated Revenue drive. Political appointees are also exempted from the three-days working periods.
The statement quoted Okorocha as saying:
We shall try this programme for the period of one year, starting from 1st of August 2016 and hopefully this will help. Let me make this emphasis before it is misconstrued or misrepresented, that this does not in any way affect the salaries of the workers. Workers will get their full salaries as been the practice. So the policy does not mean that there will be a cut in salary rather let us now find a way for our workers to supplement their salaries.
For this reason the issue of annual leave and casual leave is hereby cancelled. Resumption time for work has changed from 8am to 7.30am in the morning and ends by 4pm. Any worker that is not found on his or her seat between 7.30am and 4pm on the days concerned will be summarily dismissed.
Everybody must go back to agriculture. Every political appointee must own a farm. The youths would also be encouraged to take to agriculture. Schools including Universities, Polytechnics and Secondary schools in the state must own farms. The Community Government Council (CGC) must be strengthened for the sake of this agricultural programme”.
Two billion naira (N2b) has been set aside at the micro-finance bank for the purpose of this Back To Land For Agriculture policy so that those willing can access it. And time is gone again when politicians and some Imolites will come to government in the pretence of farming and collect loans and use it to buy cars and marry new wives”.
Again, the June and July Salaries would be paid this week. We are making sure that our workers are comfortable and our pensioners are happy because this is one area the whole nation is having a serious challenge. Our problem is not being unable to pay salaries but paying over-bloated salaries. We are also making effort to pay our pensioners once the harmonization is over.
I also want to announce that government has appealed to families and those who organize burials on Mondays to Wednesdays to please change and have their burials on Saturdays so that we can concentrate on the government’s work and on the agricultural programme.
Everything that has to do with agriculture no matter what shape it comes, government will support it. So many countries are going through economic crisis because of the fall in oil. Our nation is also going through very difficult moment. We have taken responsibility as leaders and we are not blaming anyone. Wise nations and leaders save for the rainy days. There were periods the oil price was in our favour. But those in charge then blew the money. They made no savings. Today the oil price globally has crashed and here we are. And we must fall back to agriculture as the panacea.
The Federal Government and Global Steel have signed an agreement for the resuscitation of the Ajaokuta Steel Company in Kogi state.
The signing of the agreement, which took at the State House, Abuja on Monday, is aimed at revamping the Nigeria Iron Ore Mining Company (NIRONCO), Itakpe.
Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the Minister of Solid Minerals signed on behalf of the Federal Government while Pramod Mittal, Chairman of Global Steel, signed on behalf of the company.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who presided over the event, urged the parties to stick to the terms of the agreement in order to achieve the objective of revamping the Itakpe and Ajaokuta companies within the agreed time.
The vice president noted that the signing of the agreement was unique which informed the presence of the media and other stakeholders.
Osinbajo, however, noted that it was a good thing that the country is now able to recover from all that and move towards getting things right.
He stated that everybody in Nigeria keeps talking about what the nation can do with steel, adding that it was “so obvious that steel is such an important requirement and we spent so much on it”.
“This is possibly the first concrete step towards ensuring that all of our complaints are dealt with and that we are able to, not too long from now, produce our own steel. So that we can save ourselves some foreign exchange and create jobs and opportunities for local investments and local individuals who would be interested in working with us on steel,” Osinbajo said.
Fayemi had recalled that in 2008, the Umaru Yar’Adua administration revoked the Itakpe resuscitation contract that was concessioned to Global Steel by the Olusegun Obasanjo administration in 2005.
The concessioning was to last for 10 years.
He added that since the contract was revoked, both parties had been in arbitration and later went into mediation, that resulted is the current agreement signing.
The minister said the determination of the Muhammadu Buhari administration to diversify the economy ignited the effort to ensure that Itape and Ajaokuta came alive again.
According to him, the agreement to return the Iron Ore Mining Company to Global Steel was reached in London in June to enable it complete its concession and ensure that ownership of Ajaokuta returns to the federal government.
Fayemi said that in executing the agreement, other areas such as the rail transportation and ports issues would be addressed by the Ministry of Transportation.
He said that the Iron Ore Company was the core supplier of raw materials for major steel companies in the country and that government had spent $3.3 billion to import steel products since.
He said there was enough iron ore deposit to sustain the local needs, especially the Ajaokuta and Delta steel company, Aladja,
Mittal in a speech said that his company started operations in the country in 2004 with determination to produce steel for the country.
He said the process was long but it was important that the steel sector was developed fast to speed up other types of development in the country.
He said the company was poised to produce three million tons of steel in three years but added that for effectiveness the company would need rail, gas and power supplies.
Howard Richardson, the mediator, said that the mediation gave the best opportunity for wisdom and common sense to prevail and to give the steel industry in the country the best of all possible starts in the future.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the withdrawal of the list of recommended candidates for admission sent to tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The JAMB Head of Media Dr Fabian Benjamin explained that the list was withdrawn to enable the Senate of the respective institutions perform the statutory responsibility of conducting the selection of candidates and refer it to JAMB.
The admission lists were withdrawn to enable the institutions confirm the admission in line with the criteria of merit, catchment area and educationally disadvantaged states, as directed by the Minister of Education at the policy committee meeting.
“The earlier list was sent to help fast track the process of admission so as to allow other tiers of institutions also conduct their admission,” he said.
JAMB’s head of media expressed regret over any inconvenience the withdrawal decision would have caused the tertiary institutions.

An 8-year-old girl has died in Lagos after she was beaten to death by her female employer. The suspect, who is a mother-of-two and pregnant with her third, was reportedly in the habit of maltreating the victim and a second house help living with her.
According to neighbours, the suspect, known as Oby in her neighbourhood in Isolo, ‘usually beats and overworks’ the deceased, Miracle Edegwu, and her colleague. She had also withdrawn both girls from school after she brought them from Anambra state to Lagos. When neighbours confronted her about the way she treated the girls, she remained defiant and told them to mind their business.
Early on Saturday morning, she launched another attack on the little girl, leading to her death.
After Miracle died, Oby tried to cover her death by contacting people to assist in covertly disposing of the body but they were caught by neighbours who then reported to the authorities. The suspect was then detained at the Isolo Police Division.
The victim’s corpse had been deposited at the Isolo General Hospital.
terrorism”. The state news agency MENA and security sources made this known on Wednesday. All the banned websites are currently inaccessible in Egypt.
Egypt-focused websites hosted abroad such as Masr Al Arabiya, which describes itself as progressive and has no Islamist or Qatari affiliations, was also affected by the ban. An official from the National Telecom Regulatory Authority could not confirm or deny the news, but said:
“So what if it is true? It should not be a problem.”
MENA cited a senior security source as saying the websites were blocked because they supported terrorism and that a legal action would be taken against those websites.
“A senior security source said 21 websites have been blocked inside Egypt for having content that supports terrorism and extremism as well (as) publishing lies,” MENA said.
Two security sources told Reuters the websites were blocked for being affiliated with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood or for being funded by Qatar. Cairo accuses Qatar of supporting the Brotherhood, which was ousted from power in Egypt in 2013 when the military removed elected Islamist President Mohamed Mursi following mass protests against his rule.
The block follows similar actions taken earlier on Wednesday by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates who got into a war of words with Qatar and blocked Al Jazeera and other websites. Qatar said hackers had posted fake remarks by its emir against U.S. foreign policy but the Saudi and UAE state-run media reported the comments anyway.

Nigerian superstar, Davido today revealed that he has helped a little boy resume school today. The little boy was caught on camera recently singing along to Davido’s hit song “IF” when he was meant to be in class. Visibly excited by being able to help a fan, Davido put up a photo of the boy wearing a school uniform on his Instagram page and captioned it:

‘This number does not include some 6,000 people who have been rescued over the past 72 hours,” said Dujarric.
‘In terms of fatalities, there have been 1,530 migrants and refugees who have died this year on this route, a figure that roughly matches those for 2016 for the same period, he added
‘However, the IOM warned that the deadliest season is starting right now, said the spokesman.
through the burial committee have denied reports that the late actress died of poisoning. Read the full statement below…
The attention of the Burial Committee of Late Moji Olaiya has been drawn to the rumour spreading around that the autopsy carried out on the deceased stated that the late thespian died of poison. It is a total fallacy.
The family through this committee wish to vehemently state as follows:
i. Late Moji Olaiya DID NOT die of poison and the rumour mongers should provide the autopsy report they are quoting from.
ii. The younger brother of the deceased Femi Olaiya who travelled from UK to Canada and top Nigerian promoter in Canada Mr Yinka Farinde monitored and recieved the details of the autopsy and nothing of poison is in the original autopsy documents with the family.
iii. Whoever is spreading the rumours is evil and have no respect for the dead. Karma like kinetic energy will locate and find such detractors, using the vulnerability and anonymousity of social media as a channel to perpetrate their motive.
iv. That we know BREAKING NEWS doesnt wait for no one but it makes more sense for the media and blogger to verify vividly the source of a news item and have documetary evidence or fact in sight before going to press.
v. The family finds the rumour disturbing and see it as a deliberate attempt to frustrate the befitting burial they are putting in place for their beloved one.
vi. The accused women were of help to the deceased in terms of accommodation and so on during her lifetime in the same Canada and one of them has been taking care of the 2-months old child the deceased left behind as we speak. Any envious intentions against their persons should not degenerate to the level of spreading falsehood such as murder against. It is bizarre and appalling.
vii. The committee humbly again ask for total respect for the dead, family and women whose pictures had gone viral. Thank you for usual understanding and co-operation in this regards.
The head of Palestinian Islamic courts on Sunday told judges not to grant divorces over Ramadan, fearing the month-long fast could spark rash words that would be regretted later.Judge Mahmud Habash said he based his ruling on “the experience of previous years” when he found that the dawn-to-dusk fast and ban on cigarettes, which began on Saturday, tended to lead to frayed tempers and sharp tongues.
“Some, because they have not eaten and not smoked, create problems” in their marriages, he said in a statement, and they can make “quick and ill-considered decisions”.
According to the Palestinian Authority, 50,000 weddings were celebrated in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip in 2015, but more than 8,000 divorces were also registered.
Endemic unemployment and poverty are said to be major contributing factors.
There is no civil marriage or divorce in the Palestinian territories, where only religious courts have those powers.

Venerable Femi Taiwo
The Lagos State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Tuesday called for understanding of Lagosians on the removal of the Presiding Chaplain of Chapel of Christ the Light Church, Lagos.
The Chairman of CAN, Lagos State Chapter, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola, briefed newsmen at the church on the sack of Venerable Femi Taiwo, who was removed on May 15 by the governing council of the church.
Taiwo was sacked one day after Governor Ambode‘s wife Bolanle allegedly left the church angrily during an announcing service.
Premium Times however reports that “Taiwo’s problems with the church predated the event of May 14.”
It stated that Taiwo visited the First Lady under the guise of being sent by the governing council.
The report stated that Taiwo schooled the First Lady on why he should be the “alpha and omega” on anything spiritual concerning Governor Ambode and his family.
“He also reportedly cited the church’s constitution repeatedly to convince the First Lady to always respect his office and powers,” it added.
Bolanle was said to have reported the matter to the governing council who then issued a query to the clergyman.
“It came to the notice of the Governing Council of Chapel of Christ the Light that you requested and held a meeting with Her Excellency on 27th February, 2017, claiming that the Governing Council mandated you to do so.
Please, note that your action was at your behest and not the Governing Council. We learnt that you went with a copy of the constitution, explaining the content to her.
Kindly recall that an emergency meeting was summoned on Wednesday, 1st March 2017, where you claimed that you never mentioned to Her Excellency that Governing Council mandated you. In order not to put the Governing Council in disrepute, respond in writing your position on same,” read the query signed by Gbenga Solomon, a Reverend Canon and the Governing Council Chairman.
Taiwo, also reportedly wrote a letter of apology to the First Lady after the query.
“I write to tender a sincere apology to you on the matter surrounding our visit to Your Excellency recently,” the chaplain wrote.
In honesty, I have high regard for you and see you as mother to all. Your effort in building the Chapel and the State in general is highly appreciated and we pray God to continue to strengthen you the more.
I am very sorry for any embarrassment our visit might have caused you and I plead you find a place in your heart to forgive,” it read.
Premium Times reports that Taiwo continued to remain hostile and disrespectful to the First Lady.
Apostle Bamgbola said that Taiwo’s sack should be regarded as that of an employer and employee relationship.
“As a result of the unfortunate misunderstanding of the public which has been fanned by erroneous publications in the print media and social media generally, we believe that C.A.N Lagos State, must make clarification and educate the public correctly on this matter having looked into the matter objectively,” Bamgbola said.
He said that the State Government created a standing legal constitution for Chapel of Christ The Light, which has guided its running over the years.
“By this Constitution, the chapel is run by a Governing Council which reports to the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Governing Council has the Constitutional responsibility and authority to recruit and terminate the two officers who run the Chapel of Light i.e the Presiding Chaplain and the Chaplain.
With this clarification, it should be known by the generality of the public that these two officers who run the Chapel are strictly employees of the State Government. They are subject to terms and conditions of employment of the the State Government.
Having investigated this matter carefully and objectively, C.A.N, Lagos State, wish to state today that the Governing Council that recruited Venerable Taiwo acted within its constitutional authority to terminate Venerable Femi Taiwo,” he said.
Bamgbola said it was unfortunate that Bolanle Ambode was being accused in the media of being instrumental to the termination of the Presiding Chaplain because of one anointing service.
“With this press conference, we ask that this matter be closed and be left to the Church in Lagos State to handle,” he said.
A clash between police officers and Naval officers in Calabar, Cross Rivers state Tuesday night, has resulted in the death of three police officers and a police station set ablaze by rampaging Naval officers. According to reports, trouble started when a police traffic warden stopped a group of Naval officers that reportedly tried to beat the traffic light at a check point opposite the Navy barracks in the Akim area of the town in the afternoon of that particular day.
The Naval officers took offence at the police warden stopping them from breaking the law. This led to a faceoff which resulted in both parties calling for reinforcement. The Naval officers took their grievance to the Akim police station where they shot sporadically and set the station ablaze. They reportedly stopped fire fighters from stopping the fire at the station.
Three police officers reportedly died in the wake of the clash.
Meanwhile the Naval authorities are yet to comment on the unfortunate incident.

When I was younger, I looked at my dad as very old and now, In a changing world when 70 (years old) is the new 40, I wonder how my kids look at me-lol-. I am grateful I can relate better with my children, have conversations rather than just give orders/instructions, have them run up to me when I get home rather than run off into their rooms.
I have resolved to evolve with them, watch trends closely and keep finding ways to keep up with them without losing the values I hold dear and want to impart in them.
To every father providing not just financially but also providing the love, acceptance, emotional and spiritual stability their children need. To every father looking for ways to win or retain the confidence of their children in a changing world. To every father striving at being a better dad than our fathers were. To every father who has resolved to raise their kids better than our parents did, I say Happy Father’s Day and I pray for you today that God will furnish you exceedingly and abundantly with all the wisdom and resources you require to be the father your family needs. God bless you all.

With the aim of showcasing the different ways its brand can be enjoyed, Baileys is putting together a baking competition featuring Nigerian celebrities and budding bakers come Sunday, June 26.
Set to take place at the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos, A-List celebrities, Funke Akindele, Waje, Alex Ekubo and Mai Atafo were recently unveiled as half of the teams of two competing in the ‘Baileys Bakefest’.
The other half of the teams, according to the organisers, comprises upcoming bakers selected on social media.
The four pairs were finally made public with Funke Akindele and Olusegun Adeyemi making up the first pair. Oluwayemisi Ariyo and Waje were the next pair to be announced while Tolu Samaiye and Alex Ekubo followed. Fimisade Osiyemi and Mai Atafo completed the fourth pair.
“This is only a tip of the iceberg” Baileys Brand Manager, Ufuoma Udjoh said. “Our aim is to demonstrate how indulgence can be enjoyed in more ways than one. The Bakefest is going to titillate your taste buds and leave you craving more”, she added.
The Baileys Bakefest is aimed at showcasing the different ways Baileys can be used in delicious treats such as cakes and cocktails.
According to Udjoh, it also seeks to spread the warmth and pleasure the brand stands for while suggesting the need to seize the day and be unafraid to live in the moment.
The event is supported by Beko, Nestle, Smile, Uber, BellaNaija, Accelerate TV, Her Network and Eat. Drink. Lagos.
you see someone that is mentally traumatized, the first thing that comes to your mind is ‘this person is crazy,” the actress said.
“We don’t talk about depression in Nigeria. We don’t talk about how it affects children, especially children that have been abused
When you ask a lot of adults, even a lot of people in this room, you might find out that some people have been abused as children. And if we want to tell ourselves the truth, how many of us were actually able to tell our parents about this?
In Africa, it’s always a taboo to say ‘uncle, somebody touched me.’ They will practically ask you one million questions ‘ ‘What did you say to him? How were you sitting? What were you wearing? As if it’s your fault, you become the victim.”
According to the actress, “Alter Ego” sets out to address how sexual abuse affects victims as kids and as adults.
“So, we want to start addressing this, not only how it affects children psychologically at that age, but even as adults.
“Sometimes, you see people as adults behave in a certain way, but because we have not diagnosed this problem – because in Africa, you are either just crazy and should go to Yaba Left, but we don’t think about the fact that people actually have psychological trauma and that PTSD actually affect Africans. We think it’s an Oyibo disease.”
“So, I think that’s what “Alter Ego” is trying to do and I hope no other movie has done it.”
Directed by Moses Inwang and produced by Esther Eyibio, the movie also features Wale Ojo, Kunle Remi, Jide Kosoko and Tina Mba.
“Alter Ego” debuts on July 21, 2017.
debut production ‘Brother Jekwu’, Nollywood star actor cum producer, Mike Ezuruonye has revealed that he is working on releasing a new movie titled ‘Divorce? Not Allowed’.
The romantic comedy movie which will be released to the cinemas later in the year will be the actor’s first production since his training at a film school in Toronto. The star actor explained that the movie though a romantic comedy, has a strong message; one that will teach a lot of lessons and engage the viewers.
‘Divorce? Not Allowed’ focuses on men who although are going through a difficult marriage but are not bold enough to divorce their wives, and instead go as far as setting up scandals for themselves just to get away. It highlights different situations of different men; one who would not divorce his wife because he is too comfortable in her riches and would rather take any nonsense from her than leave and be uncomfortable; and another who couldn’t comprehend the changes in his recently born again wife and so looked for different means to divorce her, but she wouldn’t leave.
He speaks about the coming movie:
‘The movie is a romantic comedy and the story we are telling is one that will engage the viewers, such that they are not just viewers but also participants, as it will ignite discussions among them.
On what viewers should expect, he said,
“we are going to be shooting this movie on a different pedestal; people get to see my directorial skills, and what I have to offer after going to film school. That’s something a lot of people don’t know; I went to film school in Toronto to advance in my craft, so we are bringing something fresh and new. We are introducing many new and unfamiliar faces and they will be playing major roles in the movie. Giving this opportunity to these new and talented people is one of the ways I am giving back and that is the way it will be for every movie I will be producing it.
This article is for the married, after your wedding is over everything boils down to you and your man alone as everybody will go to their various homes leaving you to also manage your home, well it is time to prove to your man that he has made the right choice to spend his life with you and not someone else.
As a wife, you have to try your man like a King and make him feel special while he is also treating you like a Queen, drop your pride and make your make know he means the world to you with the below-listed tips. Here are ways to treat your man like the King that he is.
Compliment him: Same way ladies like compliments men too like to be complimented as compliments make everybody feel good, tell him things that will make him smile and happy things you like about him.
Heat things up in the bedroom: Get off your comfort zone and try something new with your man, if you don’t do it there are several girls out there that will give it to him easily so to avoid that make s3x between you both interesting and something he will always like to look forward to.
Take care of yourself: The Queen of a King must always look good and stunning, it’s not necessary you wear expensive things, the major thing is for you to take good care of yourself stay fit and sexy, get you nails and hair done properly ur man will always be proud to introduce you to people.
Respect Him: Men are egoistic in nature so they value respect more than anything and they love it when their wives think highly of them and respects them. “Men have secret fears of not being “enough” for their partners, you can trust him by asking for his advice and help, trust his judgement even if he has made wrong decisions in the past still believe in him and work as a team, show public respect, speak to him courteously in front of friends and family”.
Put down your phone: You may not know it but being on your phone will make you have less attention for your man because you might be giving him the impression that your social media friends are more important than your partner, so don’t let your phone replace the “We-time” you are supposed to always have with your partner.
Get him gifts: No matter how small it might be get something for your man, surprise him as that little gesture will make him know you are always thinking about him which will always make him feel like a King.

The Blogosphere has almost been choked out of life in recent times by our celebrity couples who wouldn’t just get out of our hairs with their matrimonial troubles. Top on the list are Tonto Dikeh and Olakunle Churchill; Mercy Aigbe and Lanre Gentry. Just when we thought we have heard the last of their marriage ramblings, they come moaning to our social media cloud all over again.
Olakunle Churchill’s marriage brouhaha. There isn’t anyone who knows a thing or two about the social media who hasn’t heard of their trouble. Even with their kid in the picture, the former lovebirds turned sparring partners, wouldn’t keep it down as they keep finding new ways to throw one shade or another at each other. After the Father’s Day drama, where actress Tonto Dikeh dressed up as a man to visit her son in school, much to the chagrin of the estranged husband, Olakunle Churchill, who thoroughly condemned the act, we thought nothing more could possibly happen between the duo to surprise us again. But the effervescent actress dropped a bombshell that shook not only the social media but the entire country when she announced that her estranged husband didn’t pay her bride price, claiming she did. It was a big revelation that had all the media coming to dinner to feast on the story. Just when some were beginning to believe her, her daddy waded into the matter, proclaiming in a viral video that Mr Olakunle Churchill indeed paid her daughter’s dowry. The actress’ father emphatically stated that Churchill fulfilled all traditional requirements. Subsequently, that drama ended with Tonto’s family returning the dowry to Churchill’s family. End of story. Tonto officially becomes another single mother. In her characteristic manner of always cuddling attention, the actress released a video on Instagram, dancing to celebrate her freedom from a marriage she has aptly tagged ‘living in bondage’. Second on the list is the Mercy Aigbe and Lanre Gentry marriage mess. Everyone is familiar with their story and how it started with a picture of the actress surfacing on the social media with a battered face. With mounting ding-dong of allegations and counter allegations, the public opinion and sympathy stood with the actress. Having obviously lost the battle (the battered face said it all), she seemingly won the war, with the husband doing some time in the can, after failing to meet his bail condition. The verdict in many quarters is domestic violence. They have since been in court and when it seemed we wouldn’t be hearing much of the lovers turned gladiators, Mercy, consciously or unconsciously opened a scab in the healing wound by posting on Instagram her battered face, yet again. Her husband Lanre Gentry reacted with a twist to the story by claiming he never laid his hands on her and that she was only out to soil his name, blackmail him and get cheap sympathy, money and freedom. In a recent post on Instagram, the business man has claimed that the pictures of mercy’s battered face that went viral on social media are from a movie scene and he can’t wait for the movie to start selling in the market. He also stated that he has been silent on the issue because of their children. “Sincerely, I can’t wait to see this movie, please let me know when Adekaz will start selling it. I’ve been quiet about a lot of things and its basically because of the children and I expect you to respect that and know that my silence doesn’t make me a fool. I did not beat you; we both know that’s the truth. Moreover, I believe we still have an ongoing case in court, why then will you still post this on the internet? Let the court make its ruling. After all, you’ve gotten the cheap sympathy, money and freedom you wanted, but enough with this name soiling/ blackmail.
You and I both know what the truth is, but its so unfortunate that we both have found ourselves at the point of throwing shades and coming at each other. Let the court rule and then we both can lick our wounds and move forward. Enough is enough, stop blackmailing me and stop soiling my family name. That said, to all who come after me, insulting me, cursing me & saying all sorts of distasteful words, I don’t think anyone’s life is perfect. So, if your life isn’t perfect, why be a judge of mine? Bloggers, just because you want to make some money, please remember that some people’s lives are involved, especially the children. I don’t think anyone should expect me to keep mute when all she is doing is kill my image and soil my family’s name, ” he wrote. The actress replied him: “I never knew I was married to my enemy, begging in private but forming in public.” However, comments on social media show that people are getting fed up with either Tonto-Churchill or Mercy Aigbe-Lanre Gentry marriage mess. “They are both lacking virtues. They are using their present to wreak havoc on the future of their kids,” says one Omoba. “They love attention,” says Ms Fisayo.
Can you imagine! What a funny way to show appreciation.

Rising singer, Oluwatosin Ajibade, aka Mr Eazi, has been in the eye of the storm lately over some statements he has been making.
During a recent radio interview, the singer had claimed that the practice of infusing Ghanaian sounds and slangs into Nigerian music was started by him. And that, other artistes in the country are now copying his ‘formula’ in order to have hit songs like him.
Immediately the video recording of the interview surfaced on the Internet, Nigerians lambasted him for making false claims.
The dust had yet to settle down on that incident before the controversial singer also claimed that he rejected an oil and gas job that would have fetched him $6,000 per month in order to pursue his music career. Meanwhile, some Nigerians shared pictures of Mr Eazi’s LinkedIn page, which showed that the singer only worked as an intern at Schlumberger for six months in 2010.
However, in a chat with Sunday Scoop, the singer stood by his words.

“You must be a stupid man, you are a fool… Number 1 you sound like Ghanaians, that’s why you are accepted that means you are not original but because it’s an Africans music it means you will be accepted…
“Who are you to say a thing like that, that’s pride… Same thing happened to Davido, dissing Dele Momodu, Dele Momodu made you all what you, they fought for the industry at the same time went into the politics.

Paul and Peter Okoye have reportedly gone their separate ways, after several disagreements, disbanding their group P-Square.
The two brothers have been posting cryptic passive aggressive posts on their social media, sparking rumours that, once again, all was not well with the group.
This had progressed to the cancellation of their tour, which led fans to believe that the brothers had broken up.
In a report by LIB, Peter has reportedly sent to their lawyer Festus Keyamo a demand for the termination of the agreement between the group – P-Square.
Peter reportedly defends his decision with a series of allegations made against his twin brother Paul Okoye and their elder brother/manager Jude Okoye.
Peter reportedly said that Paul has refused to work with him, despite all of his attempts to make their relationship work.
He reportedly alleged that Paul cancelled the group’s North American tour without his approval.
He also reportedly accused Paul of slandering both his wife and kids on social media. He added that they have been receiving threatening messages.
Jude Okoye was also reportedly accused of threatening to shoot his wife, Lola, in the presence of Paul, and the former first lady of Cross Rivers state Obioma Liyel-Imoke.
Jude also allegedly threatened to have a coffin for him if he attempted coming close to his house.

A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has connected the reported fight between members of a Nigerian music group, the P-Square to the call for separation and restructuring by several groups in the country.
According to Omokri, God is using the P-Square situation to teach Nigerians a lesson.
In a message he shared via @renoomokrion twitter handle, the former Presidential aide hinted that the real cause of the brothers fighting each other was because they needed restructuring from unitary partnership to true federalism.
He wrote, “Perhaps God is using@PeterPsquare & @rudeboypsquare to teach lessons on the options before Nigeria-division, restructuring or family fight.
“Even P-Square wants to restructure from unitary form of partnership to true federalism. You are Peter, I am Paul. Together, we are P-Square!
“If Peter and Paul cant live in peace, is it our own little Republics that will automatically lead to peace? Restructuring is a better option.”

Veteran singer, Sound Sultan in a recent chat with Saturday Beats, opened up on just how much he has sacrificed in his career and how he still manages to remain relevant in the industry despite changing sounds and message.
In his words:
“I sacrificed a lot in my career because I didn’t want to contradict my message. Do you think I don’t want money from politicians? They offered me millions but then, I cannot eat my own words. I have to stand for what I believe in. The most important thing to me is the people. I don’t regret refusing the money they offered me because it is not who I am. With due respect to those that collect money from politicians, I am a very contented person. If it is not in line with my principles, no one can tempt me. It is just the way I live my life. I am into the message I preach.
“The problem is that the people that we are trying to reach with these messages are divided already. They are divided by money, tribe, political parties and other factors. I am trying to represent one Nigeria but they would not let me be. Sadly, the same people you are trying to represent would accuse you of collecting money from a political party. The most important thing is to sustain the message and those who want to listen would do so.
“Anytime you have an opportunity to lend your voice, please do. It is not until something happens to you that you have to lend your voice to a cause. If you find yourself in a position where you can use your voice and people can reach out to you for a cause because you have a lot of following on social media and your word is your bond; if you are called to support a cause, you need to selflessly support it. Once you realise that it is a well- meaning cause, support it.”
A rare disease called monkeypox has reportedly broken out in Bayelsa State.
Monkeypox, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), is similar to smallpox, but milder.
According to Punch, 1o people have been quarantined at the isolation center in Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri, in Yenagoa.
Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the epidemiological team of the state’s Ministry of Health are reported to have created the isolation center with the motive of stopping the spread of the disease.
WHO reports that although the monkeypox virus is transmitted to people from various wild animals, it has limited secondary spread through human-to-human transmission.
Ebitimitula Etebum, Bayelsa State Commissioner for Health, said samples of the disease have been sent to the World Health Organisation’s reference laboratory in Dakar, Senegal.
He said the first case observed was a man who killed and ate a monkey. He soon developed symptoms of the disease – severe headache, fever, back pains, rashes.
Neighbors of the man also began seeing the symptoms, the commissioner said.
He added that 49 other people who have come in contact with the patients are also under observation. He said:
Recently in Bayelsa State, we noticed a suspected outbreak of monkeypox. It has not been confirmed. We have sent samples to the World Health Organisation’s reference laboratory in Dakar, Senegal.
When that comes out, we will be sure that it is confirmed. But from all indications, it points towards it.
As the name implies, the virus was first seen in monkey, but can also be found in all bush animals such as rats, squirrels and antelopes.
The source is usually all animals. It was first seen in monkeys and that is why it is called monkeypox. But every bush animals such as rats, squirrels, and antelopes are involved.
So, the secretions from particularly dead animals are highly contagious.
We noticed the first index case from Agbura, where somebody was purported to have killed and eaten a monkey and after that, the people who are neighbours and families started developing the rashes.
We have seen cases from as far as Biseni. We invited the NCDC together with our own epidemiological team from the Bayelsa Ministry of Health.
We have been able to trace most of the people who have come in contact with the patients.
So far, we have 10 patients and we have created an isolation centre at the NDUTH and most of them are on admission and we are following up the 49 cases that we are suspecting might come down with the illness.
As a state, we are taking care of all the expenses of all the isolated cases.
The disease has an incubation period and it is also self-limiting in the sense that within two to four weeks, you get healed and it confers you with immunity for life.
We have mobilised virtually every arsenal at our disposal in terms of sensitising the general public and making them aware by radio programmes, jingles and fliers. So, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control has mobilised fully to Bayelsa State. We are on top of the situation.
The only thing I will tell the general public is to observe hand hygiene and ensure they don’t come in contact with dead animals and their secretions. The disease is air-borne too. So when you come down with it, it is very infectious.
People should wash their hands whenever they go in or come out of their houses. If they come in touch with animals, they should ensure that they wash their hands.
They should be very vigilant. People should report any similar cases to the relevant authorities.
A lot of people have come down with the symptoms, but they are hiding in their houses. If they hide, there is the propensity for the infection to spread.
It is better to quarantine them and treat them so that we can interrupt the spread of the disease.
People should be calm and they shouldn’t get frightened. The state has distributed personal protective equipment to workers and they are using them.
Tiwa Savage is enjoying all the accolades she deserves what with the number of hits the Roc Nation star keeps dropping back to back.
The ‘All Over’ singer is taking the mavin records brand all over the globe a feat even D’banj couldn’t manage with the old Mo’hits. While her current steady progress to a world star has boosted her Nigerian label brand it has thrown a huge block along the part of her labelmate, Dija who has so far been struggling to keep up with the only other lady in the Supreme Mavin Dynasty.
Dija came into the limelight when Don Jazzy unveiled his heroic trio and announced Mavins records plan for the future with the energetic Reekado Banks and vocal genius, Korede Bello. The first two have gone on to stamp their name in the Nigerian music industry, and have even started shooting for an international fan base, Dija, however is yet to find footing in the Nigeria music industry which has no room for a female act that can’t stay in vogue.
Known for its treacherous ways of pushing top female musicians to the curb, the music sector which is the biggest in Africa has no time for artistes who can’t keep up with the competition, and Dija can’t even keep up with the one in her label.
Don Jazzy and the mavin crew haven’t helped the mother of one in anyway either with all the attention showered on Tiwa Savage constantly leaving Dija in the shadows.
Also a mother of one, Dija might find herself out of the music business soon if she doesn’t make moves to be the centre of attention in the label or move to another label where she can standout as the first lady.
Ever since she joined Mavin records, her mates, Reekado Banks and Korede Bello has dropped their albums and even Tiwa added another mixtape to her Red album, but fans are still yet to hear any serious music project yet from Dija. Instead Mavin went on to sign 4 more artistes.
As if resigned to her fate, Dija has taken to one of her old hobbies in art and has gone back to painting but even in that she still owes her Inspiration to Tiwa.
One only wonder what it will take to make Dija break from such a huge shadow, else she ends up in the same clique as Mo’cheddah and Chidinma, who have both moved on to their new fashion and acting career respectively.

Nigerian singer, Sound Sultan has reacted to the recent praise Wizkid has been getting as regards him being compared with legendary afrobeat singer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti..
In a chat with HipTV, the veteran singer urged Nigerians to drop the comparison between the two singers as they are of different time..
He then went further to reveal he doesn’t want the comparison to weigh down the singer as it is not necessary to compare Fela and Wizkid
“I don’t want anybody to start comparing Wizkid with Fela, they are on different spaces..
Wizkid tells you, even when you read his lyrics, he will tell you Fela back.. This is someone trying to idolise Fela..
I am sure he doesn’t want that comparison
Wizkid is in a space that he is trying to make Africa proud in this time and this age, let him enjoy, let him evolve without the comparison”
A lot has been said about the alleged love triangle between singer, Simi, and her colleagues, Adekunle Gold and Falz. But no one really knows how the trio actually met.
In a chat with our correspondent, she traced the genesis of their relationship. “I met Adekunle Gold while I was performing at an event centre in Lagos. Unknown to me, he had been listening to me since I was a gospel artiste and he said he was a fan of my music. At that time, I just knew him as a graphic artist, popularly referred to as the ‘King of Photoshop;’ I didn’t even know he was a singer, but we just became close from there. As for Falz, he heard one of my works, and he reached out to me on Twitter. From there, we hooked up in the studio and did some things together. Soldier was actually my song, and when he heard it, we decided to work together on it,” she said.
Speaking on her relationship status, she said, “I always like to keep my personal life away from the public. All I can say is that I am in a relationship but I just don’t want to disclose the person’s name.”
Singer Simi has disclosed that she is in a relationship but does not intend to disclosed her partner’s name because she wants to keep her private life out of the public space.
She made this known while speaking to PUNCH’s Sunday Scoop.
“I always like to keep my personal life away from the public. All I can say is that I am in a relationship but I just don’t want to disclose the person’s name,” she said.
There have been several comments on social media about and alleged love triangle between the singer and two of her colleagues Adekunle Gold and rapper Falz.
Simi also shared how she met the two artistes.
She also disclosed that her and Falz’s hit collaboration “Soldier” was actually her song and when Falz heard it, decided that they work together on it.
“I met Adekunle Gold while I was performing at an event centre in Lagos. Unknown to me, he had been listening to me since I was a gospel artiste and he said he was a fan of my music.
At that time, I just knew him as a graphic artist, popularly referred to as the ‘King of Photoshop’. I didn’t even know he was a singer, but we just became close from there.

Lagos State Government has announced plans to honour late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, as the week-long activities marking his 79th posthumous birthday and the 20th anniversary of his death draw near..
In a statement issued by the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, the Government said the honour is in line with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s commitment to promote art and tourism and to celebrate iconic figures in politics, economics and culture sectors who have contributed to the image and development of Lagos State.
According to the Commissioner, Governor Ambode will on Sunday, October 15, 2017, unveil a statue in Fela’s memory at the Allen Roundabout in Ikeja.
The Governor will also pay a visit to the Kalakuta Museum on Gbemisola Street, Ikeja where he will join family and Fela devotees in homage to the music icon. The day will be rounded off with a Special Lagos Jump – a musical tribute to the man affectionately called “Abami Eda” – at the Afrika Shrine in Agidingi, Ikeja to draw the curtain on the 2017 edition of Felabration.
According to Ayorinde, “Fela did not only capture the global audience as a charismatic and energetic musician using Lagos as his base; he was revered for fighting against corruption and oppression even at the risk of imprisonment or death. His creativity, courage, passion and extraordinary ability to rise against the odds are trademarks of a true Lagosian”.
‘Fela is a global icon and one of the biggest success stories from Lagos. Monuments are erected across the State to remember the contributions of people like him to preserve their legacies and our history as a people’.
Standing at 25 feet and titled ‘Liberation’, the statue is done in fibreglass by artist Abolore Sobayo of Cowrie Studios as ‘an iconic legacy to celebrate Fela’s unique dress sense and style of salute’.
-Worldwide Entertainment act Kiss Daniel has been sharing comedy skits with us for some time now, which quite frankly have left people in stitches and surprised, especially as no one knew he had that side to him.
As expected this has led many people to speculate if he has plans to make a career switch to comedy someday.
However, speaking to Punch’s Sunday Scoop the “Sofa” crooner says the reason behind those videos was to promote his single at that time -“Yeba”.
I have no plans to delve into comedy; music is my major talent. If you listen to my new song, Yeba, you would notice that there are traces of comedy in it. You would also note that I started uploading those comedy skits about a month before Yeba was released, so it was just a strategy to promote the song. It was a means of creating awareness.

Mikel’s eventually joined Chelsea and recalling how he joined the Stamford Bridge side,, Mikel said, ‘Roman Abramovich organised six cars to get me there. It was like a military operation,’ Mikel said during an interview with the Sun UK . ‘’I started in one car, then the drivers would talk to each other and suddenly I was dropped off and then picked up by another car. Once there, Jose told me: “The boss really wants you. I’ll play you and make you what you want to be”. That really helped as there were times when I thought: “Have I made the right decision. As the controversy over singer Burna Boy alleged involvement in the robbery and battering of colleague Mr 2Kay continues, the Lagos state police has debunked the statement by his (Burna Boy) management that he honoured their invitation on Monday.
Mr 2Kay was robbed at gunpoint in his hotel room at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, during the Buckwyld N Breathless concert where he also performed.
After some arrests were made the police invited the singer whose road manager Joel Kantiok was among those arrested and parade. Burna Boy was invited after some of the suspects confessed that they were contracted by the singer to teach him (Mr 2Kay) a lesson
Burna Boy’s record label Spaceship Entertainment last night, released a statement saying he honoured the police invitation on Monday, adding that he has been cooperating with officers.
The police has however denied that claim in a statement released by the PRO of its Lagos Command Olarinde Famous-Cole.
“The Lagos state Police Command would like to inform members of the public that Damini Ogulu a.k.a Burna Boy is YET to report himself to the police and still on the run contrary to reports making rounds on the internet that the musician has honoured police invitation.
The command would also like to inform the public that only Burna Boy father, one Samuel Ogulu visited the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) in-charge of the case with the promise to bring Burna Boy before the police.
The Command however uses this medium to urge Burna Boy’s father and relatives to do right by bringing the musician and turning him in to the police before the long arm of the law catches up with him. The command assures that justice will be done.”
She’s had to deny being pregnant before.
Yesterday it was reported in the media that pop diva Tiwa Savage was expecting her second child with her husband TeeBillz. Before fans could send their congratulations to her, she shot it down swiftly with a disclaimer: nothing here, just a happy weight gain.
This is not the first time Ms Savage would have to debunk news of her being with child: in 2013 just before her wedding ceremony in Lagos, it was reported that she was pregnant. She refuted the claim by describing her tummy bulge as a result of eating too much puff-puff at an event.
I think they got those stories because of (what happened) yesterday (Saturday) and what happened was that I ate too much puff-puff that made my tummy bulge, she said at the time.
Turned out that in fact, she wasn’t pregnant yet: her son Jamil did not arrive until 2015.
However, during the marital crisis that almost ended her marriage to TeeBillz last year, she revealed that she had a miscarriage few months prior. Thankfully she and her husband have been working on their marriage- and have been seen in occasional public displays of affection.
So Tiwa Savage fans, please let her enjoy her weight gain. When she has an oven in the bun, she will most certainly announce it by herself.
Last weekend, Nigerian media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu broke the internet with his one-of-a-kind agbada to the #BAAD2017 wedding. The cost has been said to be a princely N280,000. The question is, would you pay that much for an outfit?

Grafton Records – the label to Nigerian singer Mr. 2Kay who was reported to have been robbed and brutalized in his hotel room at Eko Hotels under the instructions of fellow singer Burna Boy has released an official statement regarding the sad incident.
Below is the text of the official statement as seen on the Facebook page of Grafton Records.
MR. 2KAY’S ROBBERY CASE AT EKO HOTEL ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2017 – WHERE WE STAND AT THE MOMENT
We would like to use this medium to appreciate Mr. 2Kay’s fans for all their support and messages when he was attacked on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos where he performed at Buckwyld & Breathless, organized by Buckwyld Media. Like you may already know, Mr. 2Kay was attacked in his hotel room at gun point by four men who pretended to be the hotel’s room service attendants.
Mr. 2Kay was brutalized and robbed of his belongings. The robbers also took Mr. 2Kay’s friend’s items who was also in the room when the robbers gained entrance.
The management of Eko Hotel reported the incident to the Bar Beach Police station and an investigation file was opened immediately. After taking statements from Mr. 2Kay’s team, his road manager, Samuel Michael was detained for allowing Burna Boy’s manager, Joel Kantiok to follow him to Mr. 2Kay’s room after 2Kay’s performance that evening. Mr 2kay’s road manager was later cleared by the Police after interogation.
In less than 48hrs, we were told the Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi had requested for the case file as the case was transferred to Federal SARS Headquarters in Ikeja. In the course of their investigation, the Police arrested 3 boys who confessed that they were contracted to deal with Mr. 2Kay.
According to the commissioner, the robbers confessed that Joel Kantiok informed them of Mr. 2Kay’s room 0847 where they assaulted Mr. 2Kay. The robbers said they were paid by Burna Boy to “Teach Mr. 2Kay a lesson,” hence the Police declared Burna Boy wanted.
As lawful representatives of Mr. 2Kay, Grafton Entertainment would love to use this opportunity to clarify some of the information that have been going round in recent time.
1. Mr. 2Kay has not made any comment regarding the details of his attack at Eko Hotel on Sunday October 22, 2017.
2. Any other statement, quotes or opinion by anybody outside this official statement by Grafton Entertainment is invalid and inconsequential.
3. Grafton Entertainment through our lawyers and the management of Eko Hotel are in talks regarding the incident that took place in one of their rooms.
4. Our going to court is dependent on the outcome of the talks between our lawyers and Eko Hotel. The public will know if we get to that point.
5. Any further information about this case should be addressed to the Police as Grafton Entertainment did not conduct or influence Police investigation in any way.
6. This case about the robbery and assault with the police is a criminal case and not a civil case.
Once again we thank the general public for their concern and well wishes. We will also appeal that Mr. 2Kay’s fans, the media and the general public allow the Police complete their investigation, even as we commend them for the great job done so far.
We are confident that the Nigerian Police are capable of handling the case.
Bobrisky is super pissed with his mystery bae, and to teach the unknown folk a lesson, he has gone off to have mindblowing $ex with an ex.
Drama started over the weekend when Bobrisky revealed why he would no longer be attending Oritsefemi’s Lagos wedding.
According to him, his ‘bae’ banned him from attending the high-profile event, and this did not go down well with our favourite crossdresser.
To get his revenge, Bobrisky took to his SnapChat last night to rant about what he intended to do, and then he posted the photo of his outfit, plus a pack of condom. He was not joking at all.
This is the first time he would be talking about Cheat!ng on his significant other. Only last month, Bobrisky shut down the damn internet when he announced that he ‘squirts’ when he makes love with bae.
Well, dude is squirting for another partner, and we can’t wait to see how this pans out for him.

Paul Okoye is sorry, and now regrets bringing his family issues on social media, and now asking his fans to forgive him. Paul while in a chat with Olisa Adibua on BeatFM, was asked about his sad family drama with his brothers, Peter and Jude. Recall, the brothers almost came to blows in their lawyer, Festus Keyamo’s office…. Paul said he wasn’t himself at that time, and now, he no longer wishes to stoke more flames.
Despite being persistently probed by the hosts of the show, Paul refused to be drawn into issues bordering on Psquare. The interview also asked if he’d ever collaborate with his brother, Peter for PSquare again, and he simply said; “I don’t know”. He however, apologized to his fans, saying, “My fans, take heart.
As e dey break my heart, na so e dey break una heart.” He continued, “I think I was very stupid, in that aspect. Something got into me. I couldn’t stand him. But what I did, I regretted it. Please forgive me for that and let me move on.” Though he believes every family faces its own issues. “Everybody has problems in their families, everyone has issues,” he said.

Recall that the two Nigerian singers got married on the same day; while Banky W and Adesua Etomi wedded in faraway South Africa, Oritsefemi and Nabila Fash threw a lavish ceremony in Lagos. Oritsefemi has some words for folks who won’t stop comparing his wedding ceremony to Banky W’s.
Here’s what he told Punch :
“Initially, I did not notice that people were comparing my wedding with Banky W’s but later, after the whole ceremony, I noticed it. I did not even know that Banky was getting married on the same day that I did. But to be truthful, I knew that he had a ceremony about a week ago so I thought that was his wedding. I have no issues with both of us getting married on the same day, if anything; it was more fun because like they say, the more the merrier. I was the one that got married and I am not even doing any form of comparison. All I wanted was to have a classy wedding and I got that at the end of the day.
My wedding was well attended by highly respected people in the society. I don’t see any comparison because Banky even had his own in South Africa while mine was in Nigeria. Banky’s wedding did not outshine mine. Although I did not follow what was happening on the social media, I was told that my wedding trended on Twitter. I feel it was more fun for us that we got married on the same day and we were keeping people busy on the Internet.
The Internet almost went crazy for both weddings. I don’t see any problem with it. Entertainers don’t see such as a competition but it is the fans that always start such comparison. All I know is that both weddings went well, they were classy and it would go down in history as one of the most talked about weddings of 2017. I congratulate Banky W on his wedding and wish him and his bride blessings.”

An evening of what seemed to be endless moments of sharing, connecting, catching up and socializing, music artistes, media personalities, others, shared a beautiful time with men of the press at the 2017 Music Meets Media, a platform where entertainers and industry personalities interact with the media, socialize and get up-close and personal.
“The 3 outstanding personalities were honored because they have made a significant contribution to the music and media industry.”
Undoubtedly one of the hottest concert in recent times, the WizOnTheBeach concert sold out massively. The event was graced with the presence of notable entertainers such as Wande Coal, Tiwa Savage, Mr Eazi, Terry Apala, Comedian Ebiye, Pencil and the Starboy Wizkid.
With the concert living up to its billing as one of the hottest to hit the shores of Lagos, one would think that getting the props paid would have been a minor issue. However, reports reaching our desk have it that the brains behind this iconic musical concert, flu3nt and Xmedia Nigeria, have been left unattended to by Hard Rock Café despite their efforts in sacrificing time and energy to the success of the event.
According to our source, and some tweets making the rounds on the internet, it is was reported that some vendors’ payments has been snubbed, the sound management has also been left unattended to; alongside promoters, including the stage producer, Producer inc; and those in charge of other technical logistics.
Truthfully, it is very pathetic that the host of an event with such magnitude would choose to eject the brains behind it from its payroll. Things like this happen and it is really disheartening because it sees hard work go unrewarded.
We hope the hosts do the needful by paying the people who sacrificed their time, treasure and talents in making WizOnTheBeach a success.
Former Star Boy entertainment singer, LAX was pictured as he performs in his NYSC uniform at the Olamide Live In Concert OLIC4 in Lagos. LAX who just finished serving his fatherland through the National youth service corps initiative.
Barring any last minute change, dancehall musician, Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy, will be arraigned in court today, December 18th over his alleged connection in the robbery attack of his colleague, Mr 2Kay, at Eko Hotel in October.
Recall that the Lagos state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, in November, declared Burna Boy ‘wanted’ after his manager, Joe Kantiock, and two of the robbery suspects, confessed that the singer ordered and paid money for the attack to be carried out.
After many weeks of not honoring the police invitation, Burna Boy last Friday, December 15th, reported himself to the police command headquarters in Ikeja. He was interrogated and then detained and will be arraigned in court this morning.

Nigerian popstar, Kiss Daniel, has finally been served court papers by his former record label, G-Worldwide Entertainment.
According to the label, the court papers were pasted on Daniel’s gate on Friday, December 15, 2017. In the writ of summons served on the artiste, the court ordered Kiss Daniel to make an appearance before it within 30 days of receiving the court papers, or the case would go to trial in his absence.
Other papers served on the ‘Mama’ singer include: order for substituted service, writ of summons, witness list, witness’ statement under oath, status quo order, among others.
A Federal High Court in Lagos had on November 30, granted an order that all parties should maintain the status quo pertaining to the contract that was initially signed in 2013.
For DMW Boss, Davido, this year has been a combination of sweet and bitter experiences. Apart from being victorious at many International award stages and having numerous hit tracks to his credit, he also lost three of his close friends to the cold hands of death.
While speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, the IF crooner who is preparing for the final concert of his 30 billion World Tour in Lagos described this year has a challenging one but admitted that it was a good feeling to prevail.
“Everybody knows what had happened to me this year, especially with the death of my friends. But I just had to overcome it and prevail. It is an amazing feeling when you are able to prevail.
“I am happy and I thank God for the great things He has done for me this year. I thank everybody that has been supporting me. My tour was great, we went to 60 cities around the world and I am going to round it off in Lagos. It would be an amazing show and people should expect madness. It is God I guess,” the singer said.
When questioned about his involvement in supremacy battle with colleague, Wizkid, the singer was relunctant to address the issue, but finally responded saying;
“There is nothing between Wizkid and me; I am on my own. There is nothing.”
Meanwhile, Davido’s response was said to further confirm the direction of his thrown innuendo at Future Awards when he said, he wasn’t fighting with “anybody” and many believed the statement was meant for Wizkid.
One of the most anticipated shows of the year, Wizkid The Concert happened last night at the Eko Hotel Convention Center, Lagos. The event is the talk of the town – with performances from superstars like Tiwa Savage, Davido, Skepta, Mr Eazi, Wande Coal and lots more, we can totally see why.
Aside from the performances, something else that caught our eyes at fashion style were all the style moments from the event. We’ve highlighted our top 3 style moments of last night from some of our favourite celebrities. See the list below.
We’re also convinced this look was a homage to one of the greatest musical legends that ever lived, Michael Jackson.
Although this young humour merchant, Kenny Blaq, (real name: Otolorin Kehinde) shot into limelight barely three years ago via Ali Baba’s January 1st concert, people are already dubbing him the prince of Nigerian comedy.
The reason is not far-fetched. The young man is about the most sought-after comedian in the country at the moment and his creativity has carved a niche for him, one dubbed ‘ musicomedy ’.
In a chat with Saturday Beats, the rising star said that one of the downsides of being a star is finding true love. He said that with his celebrity status, most women only see him as Kenny Blaq the comedian and not Otolorin Kehinde.
He told Saturday Beats that even though he was grateful to God for his achievements so far, his status has a lot of disadvantages.
The comedian said, “It is hard for a star to find true love. For instance, if I say that I want to get married today and I don’t have a girlfriend, it would be difficult to get a girl that loves me for who I am because everybody loves Kenny Black.
“It is really tough finding someone that really loves you. Besides that, I don’t have privacy anymore because I cannot take a walk on the street without being afraid of kidnappers. I am scared they might kidnap me.”
The comic was quick to state that although he had attained fame, it had not changed anything about the way he lives his life, as he still rides on commercial motorcycle sometimes.
Blaq said, “Stardom has not changed anything about me. I still go to the local amala joint in my area to eat. I wear slippers whenever I am taking a stroll on my street, I still ride on okada (motorcycle). I think the little way stardom may have changed me is that it has made me wiser and helped me to identify my true friends. There are some friends who are there because I am Kenny Black and there are the real friends who are with me because I am Kehinde.”
Davido has revealed how big he has become, since releasing his first song, some years ago.
In new chat with MTV Base, the singer: “When I released the song back then, I did not know that it was going to be that big. Then I went back to school and the love that I was shown was overwhelming, let alone the way girls began to treat me.
That one song with the video made my father realise that I had the talent. And then, I did the song, ‘Dami Duro’. The song became so big and I remember that the President at the time called my father to talk about me and the song.
Even during my father’s business meetings with his friends, they would mention my name and the song. Before long, I started travelling and doing shows around the world.
Now I have the numbers of about 13 presidents on my phone and if I call them, they would answer the call. Then the award came and it set me on another level.”

Ojuolape, the beautiful wife of music producer, Cobhams Asuquo, today gave an insight into the early days of their relationship. Apparently Cobhams at the BBN wonderland event which took place last week, narrated how they met, started dating and then got married in December 2010 but according to Ojuolape, he forgot to disclose how he went on to date someone else when she initially turned him down because she was quite young then. Here is what she wrote on her IG page this morning.
So hubby happily told the #BBNWonderland brides last weekend how he chased me for 7 years. But he never tells the story complete. Mr. Asuquo! Reigning music Sensation, Shorae Moore has revealed his most challenging career experience in a recent interview. The young man who stole the heart of music lovers with his first official single with Enigma Media Inc titled My Way, has continued to fire on all cylinders in recent times, as a follow up to the unusual success and acceptability of the said track.
A not-too-close monitoring of his social media timelines these days bare witness to how busy he has being of late, from shows, to concerts, interviews and all manner of gigs. At a recent interview, Shorae Moore revealed how his Mum, threatened to place a curse on him never to prosper, if he pursue music as a career. According to him, he was of course shaken and disturbed because of his love and closeness to his mum, but then his passion and love for music wouldn’t let him quit. In a recent chat with 69 Entertainment, he explained further that while all this was going on, he continued to fine tune his music talent and most importantly, he learnt how music can be used as a tool to make positive impact and affect the society. This was what he did relentlessly with so much passion, until it became obvious to his Mum, that her boy was destined to make music and she was left with no choice than to give in and support.
When asked about his mum’s attitude towards his music career now, he said his mum is not just a big fan now, she is equally a stakeholder and an unrepentant promoter of his music.
